QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology/related field from an accredited college or university.
2.Connecticut School Social Worker (071) or School Psychologist (070) Certification.
4.Experience in school setting; interdisciplinary experience preferred.
5.Strong organization, communication and leadership abilities and legal knowledge.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Building Principal
JOB GOAL: Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, to provide students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with individually tailored counseling and consultation to address personal, emotional, familial, or social issues to maximize the students' learning experience. If a school psychologist, conducts cognitive testing as appropriate through the PPT and 504 process.
DUTIES:
Conducts assessments, screenings, and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning or social interaction issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to address issues and maximize learning.
Provides counseling, both individually and in small groups, to students and parents that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as liaison between home and school.
Develops and implements students' behavior management plans.
Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff to address school district's attendance-related issues.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Assists in the orientation of new teachers, and provides in-service training and appropriate consultation.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Services and the Building Principal.
Serve as a member of the Schools Crisis Intervention Team.
