Psychological and Mental Health Technician
Assist with the management and treatment of outpatient behavioral health activities. Provide a wide range of behavioral health interventions from prevention to treatment for individuals under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist, social worker, psychiatric nurse, or psychologist who assigns work by defining objectives, priorities, deadlines, and guidance on assignments that do not have clear precedents. Conduct intakes, assist with the care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients, and counsel clients and patients with personal, behavioral, or psychological problems under the supervision of a credentialed provider. Accomplish work on a substantially independent basis, perform a full range of standard and non-standard work assignments, and resolve a variety of non-recurring problems on own initiative. Use judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate guidelines for application to the work situation at hand. Observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to licensed behavioral health staff. Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures under the guidance of a licensed mental health professional, and complete initial intake interviews and required forms for new patients on behalf of the licensed mental health provider.
3+ years of experience as a patient technician
Experience with intervening to restrain violent, potentially violent, or suicidal patients by oral or physical means
Experience with supporting patients in a military facility
Ability to obtain a security clearance
HS diploma or GED
Experience in working with data a plus
Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
Possession of excellent time management skills
AA or AS degree or 4+ years of experience with training as a psychiatric technician or mental health program assistant and technician in the military
