Wexford Health has an exceptional opportunity for a Part-Time (12 hours a week) Psychiatrist/ Tele-Psychiatrist to join our team of healthcare professionals at Westmoreland County Prison in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Responsible for the delivery of contracted psychiatric services including psychiatric intakes, assessments and evaluations, treatment and medication monitoring, and disposition of inmates within the correctional system. Serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and acts as a liaison with other medical disciplines. Ensures that psychiatric treatment services are delivered in a timely, effective, and cost efficient manner.


  • Supports, and provides direction for the psychiatric and behavioral health care delivery system and coordinates with the other functions within the institution.

  • Ensures compliance with Wexford Health Policies and Procedures, Health Services Bulletins (HSB), standards and state and correctional system regulations policies and procedures.

  • Meets regularly with the site mental health and medical staff to ensure coordinated provision of health services.

  • Provides consultation services to institutional staff for mental health issues as requested.

  • Assures that all forensic evaluations are completed and submitted in a timely manner, as required.

  • Develops and maintains a system to provide 24-hour mental health consultation services to institutional staff in situations requiring immediate crisis intervention.

  • Follows and enforces security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.

  • Adheres to and enforces safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.

  • Attends mandatory and optional in-service training.

  • Participates in and conducts in-service programs; assists in orientation of new staff.

  • Maintains open lines of communication via attendance at staff meetings when possible.

  • Attends mandatory in-services on annual basis.

  • Provides direct assistance to the Psychological Services Director and Health Services Administrator in administration, planning, management, and delivery of psychiatric services at the facility level.

  • Contributes to behavioral health program development and evaluation.

  • Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.

  • Provides documentation in accordance with HSB's and unit policies and procedures.

  • Monitors and insures the appropriate utilization of psychotropic medications.


Standard medical setting within a correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmate patients, correctional staff, and health care personnel. Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.

TRAVEL: Minimal.

LICENSING: Current license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Pennsylvania.

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR certification.

EDUCATION: M.D. degree with psychiatry residency.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose, and treat medical and psychiatric disorders; and have knowledge and experience with the special needs and behavior of individuals in forensic and correctional settings.

Must possess excellent customer service skills. Be able to interact in a friendly, professional manner with a wide range of patients, operations staff, physicians, and other departments within the Excela Health system. Attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure is essential. Also must be able to function effectively in an environment where it is necessary to perform several tasks simultaneously, and where interruptions are frequent. This position requires a Pre - Employment Health Screening upon acceptance of any offer. Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease. This position is part-time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm EST, Monday - Friday (subject to change due to business demand). Position will be primary outpatient with occasionally assisting in the ED with a total of 20 hours per week. Primary Responsibilities: * Regular, consistent, on - site, and timely attendance * Schedules patient appointments for designated departments * Schedules appointments utilizing scheduling software tools * Provides testing instructions to assure smooth services * Secures authorization and referral if applicable * Customer Focus. Assesses customers' needs and considers customer in all decision-making processes to ensure a positive customer experience * Greets the customer in a polite and professional manner whether face - to - face or on the phone, determines needs and responds appropriately and courteously * Responds to customer issues (intra - departmental, inter - departmental, and public) timely and to the satisfaction of the customer * Identifies and performs appropriate action in situations where it is necessary to obtain appropriate documentation for proper advancement through the revenue cycle * Communication.
