What You'll Do:
Plans psychiatric care of patient/offenders based on need and/or problems identified in patient/offender assessment
Writes measurable goals and plans interventions specific to patient/offender
Serves on a multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team as a provider of psychiatric nursing services for mentally ill patients/offenders
Provides crisis intervention to patients/offenders
Completes detailed psychiatric screening, nursing assessments and participates in the development of treatment plans
Conducts medication education and participates in other therapeutic groups (e.g., medication compliance, sleep hygiene, medication education) as assigned
Implements special precautions for suicide and escape and secures orders for and insures appropriateness of restraint/ seclusion of patient/offenders including special needs of population
Observes and evaluates the patient/offenders physical and emotional reaction to medication and therapies
Submits timely reports to the psychiatrist and appropriate treatment staff
Documents appropriate data on the patient/inmate's records
Acts as a mental health liaison
Assists psychiatrists/ CNS with psychiatric examinations
Records and facilitates implementation of physician/psychiatrist/ CNS orders
Coordinates psychiatric appointments
Provides professional nursing care (e.g., checks vital signs, assesses medical needs, administers medication) to psychiatric patient/offenders
Provides direct professional nursing care (e.g., observes, assesses and records symptoms, reactions and progress of patients) and makes appropriate referrals
Performs psychiatric nursing rounds
Provides immediate attention to emergencies
Completes psychiatric nursing care plans.
Assists with orientation of staff
Completes miscellaneous forms and reports, including quality assurance and medication compliance
Attends meetings, conferences and training sessions as directed
Starting pay is approximately $84,100 based on location/shift assignments.
Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which went into effect January 1, 2023. The NLC allows an RN to hold one multistate license (MSL) in their primary state of residence while practicing virtually or over state lines in 37 other compact states across the country.
DRC is a "qualifying employer" for purposes of the federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness program.
