The Southwest Idaho Treatment Center (SWITC) in Nampa, Idaho has multiple openings for our Psychiatric Technician, Senior position. This is a supervisory position that will lead and motivate others to do their best. SWITC is an ICF/IID residential facility for the intellectually and developmentally disabled. The incumbent in this position will be expected to be able to provide training and support to individuals with challenging behaviors and be able to physically intervene if needed to provide safety.

This position involves the physical ability to lift and transfer patients; lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 pounds; taking necessary action in medical or psychiatric emergencies by initiating CPR or NVCI procedures; and responding to emergency situations such as a fire evacuation.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Additionally, applicants will be required to pass a background investigation after a conditional offer of employment.

  • Direct and monitor the work of Psychiatric Technicians and other direct care staff who provide therapeutic services including patient safety and security, therapeutic activities and group therapy sessions.

  • Provide staff training and staff scheduling.

  • Complete staff observations; manage staff performance.

  • Review and recommend patient/staff activities for CS Manager approval.

  • Oversight and completion of client data collection.

  • Assist with screening patients for appropriate referrals.

  • Review and approve patient/staff activities.

  • Take part in both the planning and implementing of patient treatment plans.

  • Assist in admitting and discharging patients.

  • Administration of patient medications

  • Observe patient behaviors, record conditions and lead them in therapeutic and recreational activities.

  • Consult with nurses, social workers, therapists and physicians.

  • Determine patient escalated behavior, intervene to de-escalate.

  • Utilize intervention strategies and techniques to protect agitated or violent patients from themselves and others from injury and prevent and minimize damage to property.

  • Incumbents may be assigned to especially high-risk patients where specialized training is required to effectively address volatile situations.

  • Frequently perform tasks that require you to bend, push and pull wheeled and other items, twist and squat, use both left and right arms, use right and left hands and wrists, and reach above your shoulders. In addition, you must be able to lift up to 50 pounds while performing the above-mentioned tasks, and you may be required to pursue clients to ensure safety.

  • Good knowledge of human services to include psychology, nursing or social work.

  • Experience with behavior management for individuals diagnosed with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.

General Information: * This is a trainee level position. When training is satisfactorily completed, the employee may be eligible for promotion to Psychiatric Technician. * Eligibile employees receive benefits which include Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance, vacation and sick leave and a retirement program (PERSI). * Employees may be required to work weekends, holidays, day, evening and night shifts (swing or night shifts include 5% shift pay). Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation. * Provide personal care for patients. * Provide group and/or individual services in psychosocial treatment, disturbed behavior management, record keeping, environmental management, and patient care. * Maintain the safety of patients/residents, including involvement in emergencies such as fire evacuations. * Interact with patients/residents to encourage appropriate behavior and to control aggressive behavior. * Interact with patients/residents to provide social skills training in areas such as: social interaction; leisure time activity; planning and decision making; and money management. * Take, record, and report vital signs, sleep patterns, and diet patterns. * Identify and report changes in patients/residents behavior and health. * Maintain patients/residents progress records. * Engage in physical activities (exercise and sports) with patients/residents for up to an hour at a time. * Intervene in crisis or potentially harmful situations by using specific early intervention techniques and/or physical restraining techniques. * Assist and/or support unsteady ambulatory adults of varying weights. * Lift and transfer patients/residents; lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 pounds. * Respond to emergency situations such as fire evacuation or the administration of first aid and/or CPR. * Monitor and assess safety and security of clients and facilities within their environment, and take action in crisis situations. * Maintain the environment by performing basic housekeeping duties. * Watch for and take action to prevent safety hazards.
