The purpose of the position is to provide non-professional care for those patients with mental conditions under the supervision of the Clinical Director. The technician utilizes scientific and technical expertise, and manual skills to provide care and training for patients. Position reports to the Supervisory Clinical Psychologist.

Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the resident's treatment plan, admission of residents by collecting resident information, orienting residents to the facility, and checking them for contraband. Assists in the treatment of patients with behavioral disorders and management of medical problems. Prepares and administers prescribed medications orally and intramuscularly per physician's orders. Takes vital signs and specimens. Recognizes emergency situations, responds promptly, and institutes appropriate action including in the event of cardio-pulmonary arrest. Assists with developing the discharge summary. Documents clients' progress using the policies and procedures, and treatment plan.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing variety of therapies, such as small group therapy, one-to-one therapy, and/or large group therapy using standardized therapeutic resident care. Preparing and administering prescribed medications. Taking vital signs. Monitoring patients' behavioral and mental conditions. Admitting and discharging patients. Or successful completion of a one full year of graduate education.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Position(s) requires to have knowledge of anatomy, physiology, nursing fundamentals, nutrition, pharmacology, psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and psychotropic medications, evidenced by a certification as a licensed psychiatric technician.

Time-In-Grade Requirements:
Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

This position full time position (40 hours a week) Essential Duties/Responsibilities: * Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnostic assessment, medication management, psycho-education, and follow-up, under the direction and supervision of Psychiatrist. * Prescribes or recommends drug medications or other forms of treatment such as psychotherapy or medication-assisted treatment. * Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and asses patient's clinical problems and health care needs. * Provide personal information to and participate in the credentialing process with managed care companies. * Participate in case conferences, departmental or agency meetings as required by supervisor. * Functions at highest level according to credentials and competency. * Positively impacts patient experience by demonstrating values of Transforming Care including, but not limited to, courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to accuracy. * Shares accountability for overall patient health outcomes, working in coordination with Care Teams, and working well with others. * Operates to instill confidence in our care and in our facilities to patients, fellow employees, and other stakeholders. * Other duties as assigned. Experience and Skills: Qualifications: Skills: Experience with Psychiatric medication management required. Ability to provide care for patients with acute/chronic psychiatric conditions and furnish medications including controlled substances II-V required. Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work well with other team members. Good written and oral communication skills. Legible handwriting and minimal computer literacy, but familiarity with one or more word processing, spreadsheet or electronic medical records systems. Excellent customer service skills. Education: Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) (Board Certified). Current CA NP & RN license required for NP or current CA PA license required. DEA license and CPR certification required. Completion of advanced pharmacology course, including II controlled substances required.
