NOTE:This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week.

Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Application/Examination

Anyone may apply.Current employees of the County of San Mateo with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary,Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term, and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing datewill receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

Responses to the supplemental questions must be submitted in addition toour regular employment application form. A resume will not be accepted as a substitute for the required employment application and supplemental questionnaire.

EXAMINATION/SELECTION PROCESS

The examination/selection process will consist of the steps detailed in order below.

The examination process will consist of an auto-scored relevant Training and Experience (T&E) evaluation based solely on the candidate's responses to the supplemental questions (weight: 100%). Candidates who pass the Training and Experience evaluation will be placed on an eligible list ranked according to the auto-scores. Candidates ranked within the top banded scores on the eligible list will be forwarded to the hiring department for departmental interviews. This interview process will be the basis for final selection.All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.
