Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Psychiatric Social Health Technician (PSHT) performs therapeutic and other mental health related activity, maintains direct contact with people who have social and emotional problems and handicaps, and interests with clients in daily activities of living, and insures a properly maintained physical, social and clinical environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the delivery of safe, quality patient care and services under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Bellevue Hospital's policies and procedures Member of a designated care team and collaborates with team members in achieving goals Receives assignment from the Registered Nurse Accepts aspects of care delivery for individual patient/family as delegated by the Registered Nurse Introduces self to patient/family and explains what will be done for/with each patient Identifies what the patient/family and explains what will be done for/with each patient Gathers patient data and documents on flow sheet: • • Temperature, Pulse, Respiration • BP • Height, Weight • Finger stick Reports observation of patients/data to the RN consistently throughout the tours Assures patient privacy at all time • Draws curtain/closes door while providing care • Assures appropriate dress • Does not discuss patient in public areas Reports patient experience of pain/discomfort immediately to the RN Provides patient care as delegated by RN • Bathing • Grooming/shaving • Ambulation • Turning and positioning • Skin Care • Passive and active range of motion • Toileting • Assist with transportation • Changes bed linen • Prepares patient meals and assist with menu selection • Delivers/removes trays, distributes water, nourishment, ice, etc. • Feeds patient • Mouth care • Foot care • Nail care • Simple dressing • Applies hot and cold packs • Assists RN to perform EKG's • Collects specimen for urine, and labels accurately • Assists with moving patients and assures belonging sent with them • Assists nurses and MD's performing procedures • Ambulates patient to bathroom or assists to commode: does not use diapers Prepares patient and/or examination room for test/procedure: • Cleans and sets up instruments and trays • Position patient on table, bed, stretcher, wheelchair Assists with orienting new support staff team members as instructed by RN/Clinical Instructor Documents patient data/care provided and signs name and title legibly • Assessment form (demographic data, vital signs) • Daily Patient Assessment and Plan Review Sheet • Multidisciplinary Patient/Significant Other education sheet • Progress Note • Intake and Output • Restraint flow sheet • 1:1 Special Observation sheet Thoroughly completes Environment of Care/Safety and other required documents and forwards those to Head nurse/Charge Nurse/RN In-Charge • Code Red Demonstrates understanding of human growth and development relative to age 17) Understands cultural differences of patients/families and accommodates them as directed by the RN Removes equipment not in use from patient's room and returns them to appropriate department for cleaning/repair Accompanies patient to community agencies and facilities Performs all other duties assigned by Supervisor and/or designee.

Minimum Qualifications 1. One year of satisfactory experience as described in Examples of Typical Tasks in a hospital, health care or medical facility; or 2. One year of satisfactory experience in providing non-professional nursing or medical support services in a hospital, health care or medical facility and satisfactory completion of prescribed courses in an approved training program in mental health or social health care.
