Position Summary

The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counselor works as a part of an interdisciplinary team in order to provide a comprehensive, community-based service to Young Adults ages 18-27 who have significant mental health needs as well as a history of involvement with welfare or juvenile justice systems. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counselor utilizes a "doing with" approach to model and teach skills side-by-side in the community. These skills may be life skills, vocational skills, and community skills in order to help the young adult live happily and successfully within the community.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide education in employable skills, social skills and vocational services to youth in group or individual settings.
  • Assure necessary communication with youth and all required stakeholders.
  • Prepare required on-time documentation and reports for all activities performed for youth.
  • Function as part of the Independence Ahead MTAY team and attend related meetings.
  • The ability to provide an assessment of current skills or needs.
  • Must be able to engage the young adults in contracting for goal setting.
  • Must be able to prioritize needed and preferred skills and supports.
  • Help the young adult develop new skills, support existing skills and overcome barriers to using skills.
  • Flexible in ability to create or modify resources needed to support skills.
  • Helping young adult increase awareness of community resources.
  • Educating the young adult about mental illness, wellness and living in recovery.
  • Reaching out and re-engaging the young adult when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Clearances. State Police; FBI clearance; child abuse clearance; CPSL Mandated Reporter-Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training; any additional background checks/clearances required by state governing bodies.
  • Valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance.
