Job Description:

As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing specialty health care and direct psychiatric services through comprehensive evaluation, diagnoses, and treatment of consumers. You will also ensure the correct administration of medications, monitoring the results of medicated treatments, preparing care plans, collaborating with attending psychiatrist to maximize efficiency of psychiatric services, including partial coverage in psychiatrist.

SALARY RANGE: $120,000 - $135,000 based upon experience

Other responsibilities include:

  • Prescribing and administering medications, and assisting consumer s in medication management in collaboration with the attending psychiatrist under state guidelines:

  • A stabilized severe and persistently illness

  • An acute self-limiting condition (condition with a defined diagnosis, predictable outcome, and is not threatening to life or limb)

  • Providing consultation to staff, participating in staff conferences and serving on committees

  • Providing coverage for psychiatric emergencies, including mental health hold evaluations

  • Completing medical records and reports, and providing needed referrals to medical services for psychiatric consumers

  • Coordinating consumer care with respect to access to services, lab tests, case management, primary clinician, outreach services, other agencies related to the consumer's care

  • Contacting pharmaceutical companies in regard to educational materials, samples, and other information

  • Performing other related duties as assigned by Program Manager

Job Requirements

EDUCATION: Master of Science Psychiatric Nursing. Valid Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado in good standing.

EXPERIENCE: 4 years of experience in relevant clinical setting with understanding of psychiatric services in the area of health and psychological assessment, clinical diagnosis, pharmacology, and direct consumer services.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, the telephone and other office and/or clinical equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours.

About Fort Logan This position is located at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan (CMHIFL). CMHIFL is a 94 bed psychiatric facility located in Denver that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community by providing mental health treatment to adult clients in the metro area. Description of Job About this Work Unit: Each treatment unit provides psychiatric treatment services to adult clients through the use of a Milieu Treatment Program based on models of milieu therapy and group therapy. The focus of treatment is ongoing assessment and interventions designed to assist individual clients to resolve the specific problems that brought them to the hospital and to return them to the least restrictive environment in the community. Approaches are strength-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented enabling patients to learn more effective coping and living skills in order to function more effectively in the community upon discharge from the hospital. The psychiatric care and treatment modalities include milieu management, group therapy, activity therapy, health education and medication management with the goal of providing a consistent and safe environment for clients and to assist them with the amelioration of presenting problems and symptoms and improve problem solving and coping skills. Summary of Duties: This position exists to provide therapeutic work in the psychiatric care of mentally ill patients hospitalized at the CMHIFL. Duties included maintaining a therapeutic environment and monitoring group climate by providing input at treatment planning sessions, case conferences and related meetings as well as participating in identifying client problems and in establishing approaches to client treatment, providing one-to-one counseling, delivering direct nursing care and teaching daily living skills and supervising daily activities, acting as patient advocate by giving support and education on patient rights and resolving or referring patient rights issues. May assume role of medication nurse, charge nurse or milieu manager depending on scheduling needs of unit. Responds to crisis situations by adhering to nursing standards and hospital policies and procedures as well as detecting and correcting safety violations in patient care areas.
