JOB DESCRIPTION

Title of Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Psychiatric

FLSA Status: Exempt

Program: Medical Services

Supervisor: Medical Director

Supervises: None

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent plus current Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) status required. Knowledge of psychotropic medications and the specific needs of mental health patents is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills using the English language.Basic personal computer skills required; experience with Microsoft Office software preferred. Results of criminal and all other applicable background checks must meet the approval of Pawnee Mental Health Services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide support to medical staff within the scope of an LPN license.

  • Attend staff and other meetings as indicated by the Medical Director or Clinical Director.

  • Provide health-related education, prevention and consultation to clients on issues such as symptoms of mental illness, medication compliance, management of medication side effects, management of other health conditions that impact mental health, transmittable diseases, nutrition, sexuality, hygiene, diet and wellness.

  • Collect, distribute, inventory, manage and secure sample medications.

  • Facilitate client applications for Patient Assistance in various drug company programs.

  • Facilitate communication with pharmacies, local primary care providers, health department(s) and other entities as necessary to insure accuracy and compliance with medical follow-up and treatment recommendations.

  • Provide timely and thorough response to client phone calls regarding medication issues such as refill requests, medication questions, prior authorization for prescriptions, etc.

  • Administer injectable medications as necessary and as ordered by medical staff.

  • Maintain appropriate records and reports as required by the program, agency and/or local, state and federal laws.

  • Facilitate and/or participate in psychiatric services conducted via tele-video. Accompany client during the visit as necessary, facilitate communication between client, family members and medical provider(s), assist medical staff with physical assessments (height, weight, blood pressure, etc.)

  • Maintain advanced knowledge and skills related to field of work through regular review of pertinent materials and attendance at training events.

  • Adhere to the standards, policies and instructions established by PMHS Policy and Procedure and any applicable ethical codes within field of employment.

  • Review and comply with Pawnee Code of Conduct outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other management personnel.
