McLean's multidisciplinary programs treat a broad range of psychiatric illnesses across the full continuum of care. The nurse practitioner will provide ongoing psychiatric and medical assessments, case management, psychopharmological treatment including prescribing medications (with support and supervision from sychiatric staff), ordering medication, medication management, and monitoring of non-psychiatric medical conditions and medications. They will provide brief therapy and psychoeducation around treatment, diagnosis, and medications patients.

Duties include developing and implementing innovative programming and coordinating medical care with other McLean services and external clinics and hospitals. Additionally, the nurse practitioner will provide containment and support for the community given that this is a milieu-based treatment. They will also manage the patient-centered aspects of the community including leading weekly community meeting, running one group per week, and being the primary manager for patient-related community issues as they arise.

Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses.

Develop treatment plans, based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.

Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability.

Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.

Diagnose or treat complex, unstable, comorbid, episodic, or emergency conditions in collaboration with other health care providers as necessary.

Prescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies, based on such patient characteristics, such as age and gender.

  • A current or imminent unrestricted national nurse practitioner board licensure with prescriptive authority.

  • Education: Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited National League of Nursing graduate school

  • License/Certification: Board certification as a women's healthcare or psychiatric nurse practitioner. A current or imminent unrestricted national nurse practitioner board licensure with prescriptive authority.

  • Skills: Self-motivated individual who has the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the interdisciplinary clinical team and community-based healthcare organizations.

    This individual needs to have good organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and the ability to be flexible. They must be able to manage irregular or extended hours when necessary to ensure a safe/therapeutic-staffing pattern. Energy level must be sufficient to accomplish tasks under stress, maintain appropriate professional demeanor and maintain safety when interacting with clients.

    They must have the stamina, energy, and motivation to perform various tasks and interventions with clients in the community. They must have experience with assessment, diagnosis, appropriate documentation, and providing psychopharmacological treatment.

  • Individuals applying for this position must have clinical expertise in the area of personality disorders including direct clinical care with both patients and families.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively address problems, and also work as a member of a multidisciplinary integrated team.

  • All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.

  • Required to complete electronic medical records training, and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire.
