This full-time position will work a variety of shifts, including daytime, evening, and some weekend shifts. The selected candidate will work with another RA to cover needed shifts, especially when working from various emergency rooms, including Primary Children's Hospital.

The University of Utah, Department of Pediatrics Behavioral Health is studying suicide prevention among youth and young adults. The Research Assistant/Analyst (RA) position gathers, organizes, and analyzes data through interviews, literature searches, medical record reviews and related non-lab methods for use in studies, publications and other research-related uses. Part of this position will be helping recruit study participants in the emergency room at Primary Children's Hospital and other Intermountain Emergency Rooms for young people presenting with suicidal behavior or thoughts. This position requires one sensitive to this population with excellent people skills.

Responsibilities
Collects and compiles data from a variety of sources; may enter data into a PC or computer terminal.
Work well with patients in person or by phone.
Recruit study participants in the emergency room and administer standardized measures to participants.
Ensures research protocols are followed, including working with the IRB and study sponsor.
May edit research papers, project reports, proposals and curriculum materials prior to publication or presentation.
Prepares format for final disposition of data; maintains an internal library on project information resources and final data collected.
May work with research personnel in the design and preparation of research projects and in recording data.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); one year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
