Wiley University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Provost

The Provost at Wiley University is a demonstrated leader of the academic enterprise, guiding academic planning and setting academic values, policies, and practices through a demonstrated portfolio. They are responsible for providing direct leadership to the Associate Vice Provost and deans of each school/program. Their portfolio will demonstrate a career of research and scholarship, transformative leadership, innovative programming, and teaching and learning. The provost also guides the S.A.C.S.C.O.C. process, managing the campus process for continued re-affirmation and new institutional endeavors.

Scholarship and Research

The Provost will have a dynamic record of published research and scholarship that serves as an example for the campus community. Because the provost recommends and approves all promotions, retentions, special hires, tenure decisions, and new appointments to the faculty, the Provost's career portfolio should align with the opportunity to achieve tenure at Wiley University. The Provost provides oversight for research and scholarship and works to stimulate high scholarly and research productivity at Wiley University. Preferred: Tenure-track or tenured.

Innovative Programming

The Provost is responsible for fostering initiatives that (re-)align Wiley University with its global positioning. The provost generates academic programs/initiatives that strengthen the competitiveness of our value proposition. Leading units in academic affairs, this role designs and inspires robust, dynamic activity that generates measurable outcomes. The Provost interacts with various stakeholders, including corporate and government, to inform initiatives that increase enrollment, course offerings, and policies.

Transformative Leadership

The Provost has a demonstrated record of motivating faculty, increasing teaching and learning performance, and generating student success at a complex institution. The record should include teaching experience and extensive administrative experience as Dean or Associate Provost. The provost is also responsible for engaging the President as a thought- partner increasing the continuous transformation of the academic enterprise. The provost leads current and newly emerging initiatives (graduate programs, QEP, iWiley Digital Initiative, workforce development, honors college, T.D. Jakes Foundation/Wells Fargo Financial Literacy Center, and certification program).

Teaching and Learning

The Provost is an exemplar of the teaching and learning experience through the strategic and dynamic connection to outcomes for students. The provost is responsible for generating an environment that leads students in the possibility of global, national, and local participation by creating, implementing, and generating experiences that expose students to their potential through the classroom and co-curricular learning, in order to promote learning in all spaces, and the establishment of a learning community. As the master architect of the learning environment, the provost is responsible for creating dynamic linkages and opportunities to increase learning-management of faculty development, student learning outcomes, academic institutional goals and other curricular enhancements.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Terminal degree

  • 5-7 years of progressive leadership in academic affairs

  • Record of scholarship/research/grant acquisition

  • Teaching experience in the college/university setting

  • Leadership in accreditation processes

  • Record of use of assessment for continuous improvement

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in academic affairs

  • Extensive record of scholarship/research/grant acquisition

  • Demonstrated leadership in S.A.C.S.C.O.C. process

  • Engagement in developing graduate programs

  • Demonstrated Experience in developing new centers and comprehensive enhancements

  • Experience mapping new pathways for enhancing the academic enterprise

Wiley University offers competitive salaries that rank within the top ten percent of peer small, private HBCU institutions. The offered salary will be commensurate with the applicant's education and experience.
