The Prototype Technician performs a range of tasks which include prototype assembly, rework, troubleshooting, and testing. The successful candidate will have capabilities in equipment operation, ability to communicate input on product design, an understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems, and some troubleshooting experience. Use of equipment includes hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and fusion equipment in the field.

The work requires proven ability to:

  • Assemble concept and prototype equipment, with or without detailed assembly prints.

  • Keep proper documentation during the build process to aid production assembly.

  • Construct or modify prototype parts as needed; fabrication and welding experience is desirable.

  • Operate band saws, hand tools and other common shop equipment.

  • Perform tests on concept or prototype equipment using written and verbal instructions.

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment. This includes working on mechanical and hydraulic systems using tools such as hoists, wrenches, and welders.

  • Interpret and complete work according to plans and procedures.

  • Collect and record data using a prescribed documentation process.

General Job Requirements are;

  • High School Diploma or GED, technical school degree or related work experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of mechanisms, materials, and hydraulics

  • Knowledge of standard business software products (Excel, Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.)

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and implement prescribed test plans

  • Good written and oral communication skill

  • Work independently and safely

  • Able to read blue prints, diagrams, drawings, and sketches.

  • Communicate with engineers and advise on product issues.

  • Valid driver's license and minimum liability insurance on personal vehicle as required by law.

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and extra time as needed.

  • Organizational skills and familiarity with clean work environments.

  • Operate a fork lift, skid steer loader, and other mobile equipment.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Must be able to routinely work standing 80% of a normal workday. Work may require bending, squatting and climbing while using hand tools or instruments.

  • Corrected levels of vision and hearing are essential due to exacting precision required by duties, and the monitoring of machine operations and problems.

  • Mobility required between multi-building complexes covering several acres.
