Prototype Engineer

What's the role?

The Prototype Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing prototyping processes for modular support systems in our regional prefabrication units. This role will manage the prototyping cell, oversee new product release on the shopfloor and develop innovative solutions to enhance fabrication efficiency (design optimization, custom jigs, assembly sequence, etc.) and ensure a seamless transition from Design to Production.

What does the role involve?

During the product design and development phase: •Collaborate with design engineers and CAD modelers, Project Execution Managers (PEM) and productions teams to understand both design specifications and manufacturing capabilities •Develop and fabricate prototypes of modular systems using a combination of our traditional manufacturing techniques and advanced technologies such as 3D printing and CNC machining •Optimize design for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, sustainability impact and scalability •Conduct and facilitate feasibility studies, technical assessment and experimental tests to ensure constructability, evaluate prototype performance and identify areas for improvement •Document and communicate design iterations, test results and recommendations to cross-functional teams •Other duties as needed or assigned During product launch: •Work closely with production teams to transfer successful prototypes into full-scale manufacturing processes (e.g., generate CAD models with step-by-step drawings, ensure proper documentation is created) •Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends related to modular construction and manufacturing •Other duties as needed or assigned

What you need is:

• Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, required •Technical Master's Degree, preferred •Proven experience in prototyping, preferably in a manufacturing environment

• Hands-on experience with prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining) •Proficiency in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software (e.g., AutoCAD 3D) for design and simulation •Thorough understanding of design engineering (technical drawing interpretation), industrial engineering and tooling •Excellent organizational, time management skills and attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills •SAP knowledge, preferred •Lean / Six Sigma experience, highly preferred
