Protective Services Caseworker

The Protective Services Caseworker, within the framework of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) regulations, is responsible for investigating and determining if an elder is suffering from a reportable condition (Abuse, Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Neglect, Self-neglect or Financial Exploitation) and develop a service plan to mitigate further harm.

Schedule: This is a Local Union 509 position. This is a full-time, non-exempt (35 hour/week) position. We offer a 4-day work week and hybrid work schedule (once training is complete.) No nights or weekends.

Compensation: Starting annual salary is $55,359.30. Being bilingual is not a requirement for this role, but we recognize it as an asset and offer an additional 6% bilingual designation for Spanish, Haitian Creole, Russian, Vietnamese, Cantonese or Mandarin. Job Activities

Job activities of the position are below. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

  • Investigate assigned cases, while meeting EOEA timelines and documentation standards

  • Evaluate the functional and cognitive capacity of the individual and assess the home environment by conducting in home visits or perform the evaluation in a safe environment

  • Work with formal and informal supports to alleviate or prevent further mistreatment by developing a service plan for open cases, and coordinating appropriate services

  • Provide 24-hour on call coverage for MVES Answering Service

  • Provide crisis intervention in emergency situations and act as a resource to MVES staff

  • Advocate in court petitions for restraining orders, protective orders, and guardianships

  • Attend EOEA Training sessions and participate in regular supervision meetings and in collaborative team model

Qualifications:

  • A Masters or higher degree from an accredited school in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Development, Nursing, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, Public Policy, or Gerontology, and at least one year of experience in counseling, casework, case management, preferably in a Protective Services or crisis intervention role;

OR

  • A Bachelors' degree from an accredited school in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Development, Nursing, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, Public Policy, or Gerontology plus at least two years of experience in counseling, casework or case management providing protective or crisis intervention services.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels, including staff, family and external partners

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information or in sensitive situations

  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to work effectively independently or as a team

  • Demonstrates a willingness to take on new tasks with a general attitude that no task is too small, impossible, or cannot be improved

  • Expertise in the following platforms: Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Pro, Zoom and other web-based applications

Physical Requirements of the Job:

  • Ability to lift, push, pull and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to climb up and down stairs unassisted

  • Ability to travel to the community to perform visits at clients' homes

  • Work requires regular standing, stooping, and bending
