Job Description:

American International College (AIC) is in search of a Prospect Researcher and Portfolio Developer to join our Advancement team, playing a crucial role in the lead-up to our next capital campaign. This individual will report directly to the Vice President for Advancement and will be primarily responsible for establishing and managing a system that supports the critical functions of prospect research and data-informed decision-making.

The Prospect Researcher and Portfolio Developer will be tasked with creating and maintaining a prospect management system that facilitates the movement of potential donors through our fundraising pipeline. Their job will involve analyzing the prospect pool to aid in fundraising planning and projections and ensuring that development officers have strong portfolios of prospects that are aligned with AIC's strategic funding priorities.

The Prospect Researcher/Portfolio Developer routinely handles highly confidential information and is expected to maintain the utmost level of careful stewardship of this information.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Proactively, and as assigned, identify major and principal gift prospects with a focus on assessing giving capacity and finding connections to the College. Conduct research on individuals and organizations using a wide variety of prospect research resources and prepare confidential biographical and financial profiles for members of the development staff, senior management, trustee leadership and key volunteers.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date information on prospects and donors. Track and disseminate news and information about donors and prospects to Advancement staff.

Develop and assist with effective management of portfolios with newly identified prospects to front line fundraisers and engagement staff.

Support the office of Institutional Advancement priorities with additional duties at the request of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Requirements:

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Two to four years of experience in either prospect research or client research is preferred.

  • Experience using a broad range of research techniques, including print-based and internet research, electronic databases, and the use of other appropriate sources and methods.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a sense of humor.

  • Excellent customer service skills with an emphasis on relationship building.

  • The ability to act with discretion and diplomacy and deal with confidential information in a responsible and sensitive manner.

  • Ability to work with frontline fundraising officers in a team-oriented approach.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; superior organizational, project management and analytical skills.

  • Honesty, trustworthiness, and the ability to interact effectively, politely, and efficiently with people from all backgrounds.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, spelling and grammar skills and the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with co-workers and constituents.

  • Ability to anticipate needs and show initiative in managing and promoting new projects.
