The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Southern California Engineering Design Center offers many opportunities including the diversity of three businesses: Boeing Global Services Aftermarket Modifications & Freighter Conversions, Airplane Programs, and Customer Support.
As a Propulsion Design Engineer in Southern California you will be an integral part of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes team supporting all Boeing models both in development and in airline service, including programs such as the 737 MAX, 787, 747-8, 767, 777X, Out of Production airplanes, and future airplane development. The SoCal Propulsion team offers opportunities such as working with major turbofan engine companies, performing powerplant installation analysis and designing propulsion structures including nacelle. Our work includes all aspects of the Propulsion System such as main engines, auxiliary power system, fuel tanks, and the nacelle structure.
Design Propulsion systems, structure, and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria by utilizing approved engineering design tools and processes.
Define, coordinate and control functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle to produce optimum vehicle design and performance.
Lead small cross-functional teams to establish optimal system design by conducting trade studies.
Develop and advance concepts for future propulsion systems and components by developing and applying technologies and methods to advanced vehicle concepts to meet current and future operational/customer requirements.
Coordinate multi-functional efforts to support propulsion design definition certification and validation.
Assess and resolve product/process issues through the product lifecycle.
Lead research of technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer.
Design and/or provide analysis of interim and final engineering solutions to return airplanes to revenue service.
Work with and possibly direct cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non-conformances.
Develop and implement product/process improvements.
Oversee documentation of hardware related problems.
Identify the need for technical training.
Support the development and documentation of Propulsion requirements to establish the system design.
Support the development, maintenance or modification of system, component and installation designs/proposals and provide design documentation to downstream groups.
Contribute to supplier development, test and production activities and direct the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals.
Support system component design/proposal standards and provide installation and detail documentation.
Work under general direction.
Develop specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Configure or design propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria.
