Propulsion Systems provides integrated propulsion system life-cycle solutions for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, including engineering design, systems planning and integration, production and build-up, certification and fleet support for newly manufactured and more than 12,000 in-service jetliners worldwide. With approximately 1,000 employees, the organization has responsibility for engine and propulsion systems procurement, contracting, engineering and manufacturing integration for all commercial airplane programs. Propulsion Systems Engineering responsibilities include development of integrated engine, nacelle, strut, fuel systems, thermal analysis and auxiliary power unit; product integrity and functional analysis; technical support for propulsion safety, certification and ETOPS; and engineering support for customers and fleets.
All new hire Propulsion Engineers participate in the Propulsion Rotation Program, a 2-year fast-paced program that provides highly qualified, multi-skilled, potential leadership candidates a challenging introduction to Propulsion engineering careers. This development program will provide participants with opportunities to obtain extensive exposure and broad experience across multiple Propulsion teams. Prepare definition of requirements for propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems and vehicle fuel and tank systems.
Coordinate and control the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle.
Develop specifications for supplied vehicle systems such as structures, engines, APU and fuel systems. Coordinate with supplies and engine manufacturers.
Create design of propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria.
Prepare technical documents for configurations and designs of propulsion sub-systems and components.
Analyze, design and simulate systems to estimate or calculate system performance.
Contribute to the performance of certification tests for propulsion sub-systems and components.
Conducts tests for fielded systems to assure continued reliability and airworthiness.
Provide technical solutions to the development of concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements.
Works under close supervision.
