Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and adjusts moderately complex property claims presented by or against our insured to confirm coverage, determine legal liability and settle/defend in compliance with all state regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides property claims service via internal channels (phone/fax/email/mail/) to Insureds and third party customers.

  • Adjusts moderately complex property claims. Severity of claims includes personal property claims involving moderate dollar value, additional living expense claims, liability claims involving physical damage, and writing personal property and moderate to complex valued dwelling estimates.

  • Acquires and applies advanced knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, and Esurance claims best practices.

  • Partners with and/or directs vendors and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution.

  • Contributes to business goals, performance metrics, and effectively uses tools & technology.

  • Supports workload surges and/or Catastrophe operations as needed to include working overtime during times where volume is high.


  • Experience handling dwelling claims.

  • Proficient in using property estimating software.

  • Proficient in using Contents Software and associated analytical tools.

  • Intimate Knowledge of property claims contracts and interpretation of case law.

  • Must be able to work in phone intensive environment.

  • Ability to meet all state licensing requirements.

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a related field, and/or equivalent education required.

  • 1+ years relevant property claims adjusting experience.

  • Prior work experience in a Catastrophe Claims Response environment.

  • Property field or desk estimating experience.

  • Wind/hail claims experience.

Typical responsibilities for this position include: (1) supporting, reviewing, and improving 3rd party vendors' equipment and business enterprise appraisals; (2) analyzing and interpreting pending and enacted tax legislation and legal precedent to identify tax opportunities; (3) advising senior management of the tax implications associated with Company business activities; (4) formulating, developing, and taking ownership role for nationally-leveraged tax strategies and deliverables; (5) performing tax impact analyses associated with anticipated changes in legal structure and/or business operating activities; (6) reviewing, evaluating and organizing best practice strategies to provide recommendations to management for improving and integrating new initiatives that make the property tax function more efficient; and, (7) conducting financial analysis to support property tax strategies. This professional will need to be able to work independently, and to exercise competent judgment within generally defined practices and policies in finding and selecting methods/techniques which meet Company objectives. The candidate needs to be proficient in professional appraisal and legal concepts so as to resolve complex property tax issues in effective ways. This job also requires detailed analyses of significant and unique issues of a diverse scope where multiple intangible factors come into play. As such, the candidate will need strong interpersonal skills to develop working relationships with both tax administrators, and across a wide range of Company teams (both inside and outside of the Tax Department) so as to draw on knowledge and resources from multiple disciplines in furthering the property tax effort of minimizing and negotiating lower property taxes. Candidate should have a min. of 5+ yrs. of Utility or Telecom property tax experience with Industry or a Big 4 accounting firm (min. of 3 yrs. in centrally assessed property tax area), as well as possess a professional appraisal designation, law degree, or relevant professional post-undergraduate credentials.
