About Chain O'Lakes State Park:

Chain O'Lakes State Park is a 2,718-acre area that encompasses eleven lakes. Nine lakes are connected, making the park a favorite of boaters. Visitors can paddle through the chain of serene kettle lakes, hike the 23 miles of forested trails, fish the electric-motors-only lakes, stay overnight in a forested hillside family cabin, visit the park's historic one-room Stanley Schoolhouse, or explore the Nature Center. Other facilities available for visitors include a campground, beach, and picnic shelters.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

Role Overview:

As the Property Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our customers throughout a DNR state park or range facility. In this position, you will provide excellent customer service, and a clean and safe environment for our guests, as well as meet the expectations of responsible use of natural and cultural resources that are outlined in policy, procedures, and rules. In this position, you will work nights, weekends, and holidays when no manager is present requiring you to make decisions using sound judgment and problem-solving skills.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provide excellent customer service to the guests to ensure the safety of all visitors.

  • Educate customers on all property regulations and use customer service techniques to gain voluntary compliance.

  • Responsible for employee safety and security during shift change and during transport and / or deposit of revenue.

  • Patrol and inspect the property to ensure the security and safety of buildings, grounds, patrons, and employees.

  • Conduct routine safety inspections of grounds and facilities, which may include playgrounds, buildings, or equipment such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, etc.

  • Respond to emergency situations on the property such as missing persons, accidents, first-aid

  • emergencies, domestic disputes, and alcohol-related problems.

  • Respond to non-emergency property disruptions such as electrical outages, campsite mix-ups, and change runs for the attendants.

  • Resolve property complaints and obtain voluntary compliance from guests for minor rule violations and disputes.

  • Complete any required documentation including accident reports, incidents reports, individual statements, and daily patrol reports.

  • Perform routine labor and grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weed eating, picking up brass, removing trash, etc.

  • Act as a backup for sales of campsites, resale items, sales of annual and daily entrance permits.

  • Assist law enforcement and emergency personnel when called upon to do so.

Additional essential functions for Range Facilities

  • Conduct safety briefings to each individual visitor of the shooting range regarding handling of firearms, handling of ammunition/firearm malfunctions safely, and supervising safety aspects of shooting activities.

  • Responsible for the completion of sales for range fees.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).

  • Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be CPR certified or be able to pass a CPR and First Aid Course and maintain certification.

  • Must have a certification to carry OC pepper spray or be able to obtain and maintain certification.

  • Working knowledge of Indiana Department of Natural Resources / Indiana State Parks property rules, regulations, policies, and operations.

  • Ability to make critical decisions under stress and potentially administer first aid.

  • Mastery customer service techniques as well as the ability to exceed customer expectations.

  • Understand the intent of policy and recognize the importance of interpreting DNR policies with a customer service focus.

  • Ability to operate park radios and/or cell phones according to policy.

  • Working knowledge of how to protect natural and cultural resources from misuse or damage.

  • Working knowledge of the property's safety programs.

  • Basic knowledge of the unique natural and cultural resources located on the property.

  • Ability to communicate with guests in a positive, professional, and helpful manner.

  • Ability to perform a variety of routine tasks involving the care and maintenance of property buildings, grounds, utilities, vehicles, and equipment.

  • Must be able to operate snowplow equipment, tractors with implements and other similar construction equipment.

  • Ability to use computer, point of sale system, and programs such as Word, Excel, and email.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and maintain effectiveness with little or no direct supervision.

  • Ability to work irregular work schedules including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

You must meet the following requirements for employment at Range Facilities:

  • Ability to pass an NRA Range Safety Officer Course and maintain certification.
  • A working knowledge of firearms and associated components.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
