We are looking for teammates who are:

  • Knowledgeable of accounting and auditing principles and practices

  • Able to interpret and analyze financial data, records, reports, and local government tax data

What you will do:

As a Property Office Auditor, you will focus on completing audits for business personal property, legal residence, homestead exemptions, property tax exemptions, and manufacturing to ensure compliance with both Federal and State laws. You will work with taxpayers, CPA's attorneys, and county and local government officials.

Primary job duties include:

  • Performing complex audits of legal residence and homestead exemptions

  • Serving as a local government liaison for legal residence and homestead determination and audits

  • Researching and interpreting documents from state and local government agencies

  • Analyzing assets repots to ensure proper classification of assets

  • Analyzing and researching Business Personal Property reports

  • Reviewing property audit findings and making determinations for referrals to necessary SCDOR divisions

  • Communicating detailed local government tax law and audit findings to key stakeholders

  • Assisting in preparing tax law presentations for local government officials

  • Keeping knowledge of Federal and State laws that impact current SCDOR processes

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Either:

  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses (Transcript required)

  • A bachelor's degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis

  • An associate's degree and three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis

  • Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)

Additional Requirement:

  • A valid driver's license. (Position may require travel to a county for an audit. Mileage reimbursement is provided.)

Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m.

  • 6:00 p.m., Monday

  • Friday (37.5 hours per week).

  • Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week.
