Project Manager

Introduction
DuPont Michigan Operations is seeking a Project Manager to join the Michigan Engineering Team. The team has the primary responsibility for leading execution of capital projects ranging in size from $500M up to $10MM, and team members are also involved in supporting larger projects in the region from time to time. This team supports all DuPont businesses at all manufacturing locations within Michigan.
Key Responsibilities:
Assesses team functional capability, identifies expertise gaps within the project team and solicits the steering team for necessary staffing support.
Provides leadership for an effective and cohesive team by ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly understood, team member workloads are reasonable, cross-function communications are adequate, and personality conflicts are managed for owner and contract members. Engages outside consultants when needed to support the team.
Ensures the front-end loading process is followed consistent with the business needs and all required deliverables are accomplished in a quality manner.
Leads the team in identifying non-cap alternatives or lower cost capital options, evaluating scope options, conducting risks analyses and developing risk mitigation plans.
Ensures excellence in adherence to PSM, SHE, MIQA, export controls and trade secrets principles, and other core value standards, processes and procedures.
Performs/coordinates economic evaluations, prepares funding requests, forecasts capital and non-cap expenditures and asset write-offs, and ensures necessary financial reporting and accounting is performed in a timely way.
Serves as the owner's lead project engineer as needed to ensure necessary engineering processes are followed, leveraging highly with engineering and construction management contractors. Champions the "no change" concept and ensures only changes consistent with the business and project objectives are approved.
Works closely with site leadership to ensure proper preparation for commissioning and start-up of new facilities, including training, procedure updates, maintenance PM records updates, etc.; ensures schedules are aligned with supply chain and operations/maintenance needs, such as TARs, to determine when outages are available if necessary.
Defines and analyzes KPI's to insure overall performance expectations for the project are met, and communicates results to the steering team and appropriate functional leaders.
Qualifications
4-year B.S. in engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred).
5 years of experience working on capital projects greater than $500,000
Experience working with full-service design contractors.
Prior experience improving performance and capability and demonstrated courage (need to challenge the status quo).
Experience managing 3rd party contractors / suppliers
Experience working with geographically dispersed teams
Experience working in project controls roles (estimating, scheduling, cost control)

Overall understanding of project process from FEL-1 through check out and startup and of the DuPont GPS
Understanding of DuPont capital and non-capital funding practices, appropriation rules, and project control techniques
Basic understanding of manufacturing technology/processes, plant operations, and maintenance strategies
Other Job Considerations
Travel as needed to manage project scope. This can include design reviews at off-site locations, vendor meetings or shop visits, tours of sister sites/processes, contractor selection and/or bid meetings, and other travel as dictated by project needs.
