Job Summary

Urban Grid is seeking a Project Planner to play a crucial at Urban Grid by managing the planning & scheduling aspects of utility scale solar projects. This role works with project managers, site managers, project developers, EPC contractors and key vendors to develop, monitor and manage project schedules. The role involves coordinating and doing all planning & scheduling activities from conception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a resource for project delivery and development teams to provide planning & scheduling support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and lead the development of project schedules, detailed appropriately depending on the stage gate of the project.
  • Develop procedures, standards, and best practices for scheduling. Lead the development/implementation, enhancements, and upkeep of scheduling & reporting tools.
  • Prepare early phase schedules detailing the front end & pre-construction activities. Provide indicative estimates of construction schedule using as-built data and benchmarks.
  • Participate in the ITT process to provide reference schedule, review bidders submissions, and to align bidders on the project scheduling & reporting requirements.
  • Review and approve contractor’s level-4 resource loaded schedule and progress measurement philosophy. Lock-in schedule baseline. Ensure alignment with best practices.
  • Review and approve contractor’s measured progress. Ensure measured progress is in sync with the measured quantities.
  • Internally, lead and conduct interactive activity planning meetings for optimum scheduling and for identifying opportunities for schedule improvements.
  • Prepare level-4 owner’s schedule, mainly integrating schedules from contractors, vendors, and owner activities. Prepare Level-1 roll-up schedule for management reporting.
  • Support project managers in maintaining critical path. Work with contractors in preparing / advising them on catch-up schedules.
  • Perform trend analysis to identify potential risk areas and to validate contractor’s forecast.
  • Participate in progress review meetings with contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Propose and agree on key project matrices with contractors and internally. Develop and maintain reporting dashboards to communicate project schedule performance.
  • Conduct risk analysis on project schedules to arrive at P50 schedules, to understand project drivers and in general for better decision making.
  • Maintain records and data to be able to conduct forensic schedule analysis to support project managers in responding to extension of time claims.
  • Ensure as-built data is accurately captured to strengthen schedule benchmarking process.
  • Build and maintain Urban Grid’s portfolio schedule.

Location: Based in Houston, TX with a hybrid/ remote work schedule. Occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in scheduling, planning & executing construction projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and ability to develop construction schedules. Experience in construction of utility scale solar projects will be an added advantage. Experience in planning & scheduling in Owner’s organization will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools. Advanced skills in using Primavera P6 / MS Projects. Working knowledge of Procore, Primavera Risk Analysis and Power BI will be an advantage.
  • Strong technical knowledge of solar energy systems and related technologies. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and permitting processes related to solar energy projects.
  • Strong attention to details, analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional certifications in project management / schedule management will be an advantage.
  • Ability to collaborate with and manage a wide range of stakeholders.
