Individuals within the Project Manager-Intermediate role are responsible for following the industry standard project management practices in planning and managing the development and execution of moderately complex projects. They also develop the project scope and charter, define project guidelines, obtain project sponsor approvals, and coordinate the resources necessary to successfully complete the project.


  • The Project Manager-Intermediate administers projects of moderate complexity, and resolves issues of moderate scope.

  • Develops the project charter based on the agreed upon scope, implements project management process, plans task based on expert input, identifies resources requirements, and manages scope, cost, and schedule in a way that supports the successful completion of projects.

  • Coordinates project activities including capability/functionality release schedule, feature and release estimates (Rough order magnitude/ROM; high level estimates/HLE, project plans/PP),

  • Develops project plans and scheduled; including people names, milestones,% complete, Red/Yellow/Green status, resource plans (essentially names on tasks over time)

  • Estimates project schedules with assistance from subject matter experts and other stakeholders.

  • Communicates major milestones providing continued direction to the project team through task assignment and tracking, and conducts regular status meetings to review project task completion and issues.

  • Reports a status to the project sponsor during the execution of the project. At the project completion, informs project sponsor of the deliverables and confirms their acceptance.

  • Coordinates the procedures for managing changes to the project scope, project risks, project issues, project communication, and project acceptance for moderately sized projects. Seeks assistance from more experienced project managers or leadership to resolve highly complex issues.

  • Performs post implementation reviews to ensure that the project deliverables met the approved project baseline (schedule, Cost/resources, and quality).

  • Provides constructive feedback to project team members as it pertains to project performance.

  • Provides expertise in the application of the tools, techniques, and methodologies of project management discipline.

  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with project sponsors, vendors, and key entities.

  • Participates in extending and enhancing the project management discipline in the Vertex Cloud team.

  • Participate in other projects as assigned.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Lead or participate in other projects or duties.

  • Requires experience and a basic knowledge of product development, information systems, software development lifecycles, facilitation and influencing, and project management methods.

  • Proven understanding and be ablility to apply basic project management methodologies, (i.e. water fall, agile), concepts.

  • Strong knowledge of MS Project

  • Familiarity with Agile project methods

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of project planning, execution, controlling, and closing.

  • Must possess good organizational skills and demonstrate ability to plan and track tasks.

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the latest areas of new technology and how they could apply to their projects.

  • Have the ability to lead teams and resolve issues.

  • Work generally in an independent manner being dependant on instruction to accomplish more complex project activities.

  • Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.

  • Must be results oriented, customer focused, and exhibit good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to apply professional concepts, experience and company objectives in order to perform an in-depth analysis of situations or data to resolve complex issues in creative ways.

  • Ability to work without supervision. Latitude for independent decision making.

  • Ability to network with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

  • Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.

  • Must possess good interpersonal organizational, presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office packages.

  • Sufficient knowledge of business communications, including telephone, voicemail, and e-mail and operations of office machines, such as photocopier, scanner, and fax.


  • Bachelor's Degree or specialized training and equivalent work experience is required.

  • A recognized project management certification (PMP) or proof of equivalent knowledge is preferred.

  • 3+ years of Project Management experience and a minimum of 5 years commercial software development, implementation, and/or business experience.

  • Technical Lead experience in software development preferred
