Project Manager, Wholesale Interconnection

In steps towards meeting Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy, the Wholesale Interconnection Specialist will be responsible in managing the application for utility interconnection and wholesale market registration on behalf of business clientele. In doing so, the Wholesale Interconnection Project Manager is ensuring both Tesla and its customers are in compliance with regulations to have renewable systems up and running as quickly as possible in addition to communicating annual compliance requirements throughout the course of the facility's operation.

This individual will exemplify expertise in working within various wholesale markets that include, but are not limited to, California ISO (CAISO), the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), and ISO New England (ISO-NE). As such, it is critical for this individual to have experience within the market registration process and to inform project stakeholders on critical deliverable deadlines to achieve target operational dates. Success within this position requires the candidate's proactive assessment of project timelines relative to ISO registration due dates and the ability to identify solutions or alternatives in instances of schedule concerns.

The Wholesale Interconnection Project Manager will mainly work independently within a small team and will have resources available for mentoring and on-going questions; however, the candidate must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and execute their own workflow independently and efficiently. The candidate must also have a consistent application of initiative and common sense to solve problems.

Attention to detail and organizational skills are a necessity; in addition, they must be open to change and ready to suggest new and innovative solutions to address policy and technological changes in the industry to develop more streamlined approaches.

• Ability to manage 10+ wholesale & front-of-the-meter projects
• Complete filings to entities such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), California Energy Commission (CEC), and Public Utility Commissions (as applicable) for qualified generation systems under entity and site operational compliance requirements
• Proactively communicate field installation guidelines and utility witness testing requirements to the field operations group, engineering, and other relevant teams within respective RTO/ISO markets for successful close-out
• Manage complex business relationships between Tesla and Market Entities through regular and timely phone and email communication
• Support development, scoping, contracting and oversight of large infrastructure energy projects; identifying barriers in preliminary project schedules that could impact milestone deadlines & operational dates
• Coordinate with Engineering and Power System SMEs to ensure timely submittals for all required studies/documentation related to interconnection processes for both design approvals and project commissioning
• Provides guidance to project/program stakeholders on Wholesale protocols and business procedures consistently while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Minimum 3 years' experience in the electric utility industry and advanced understanding of the competitive electric markets, operation of an interconnected transmission and distribution system, and/or large infrastructure project development processes
• Understanding of renewable energy systems and ability to interpret SLDs and other design documents with limited guidance.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, Project) and Adobe Acrobat Professional with an ability to learn new software
• Ability to manage a high volume of customers/cases simultaneously and must thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
