GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

This position is responsible for supporting the Executive Director and Chair for the Department of Urology (DOU). The project manager will support high-profile projects in business development, financial analysis and planning, core departmental functions and other related areas that improve the overall operations, efficiency, and financial condition of the DOU. This position crosses clinical, educational and research missions with the DOU. A main focus will be call center ACD lines and bringing together multiple groups to improve overall efficiency of the service as well as patient access.

Upon assignment by the Executive Director, the project manager will complete necessary statistical analyses; interact with other DOU, BWPO and BWH leadership for approval and input; organize the presentation of completed materials to various DOU constituencies, and conduct follow-up analysis. The project manager will also complete various ad-hoc analyses and other tasks as assigned by the DOU Leadership team.

The scope of this role spans all of the DOU Brigham and Women's Physician Organization (BWPO), Brigham DOU Research and Education Fund, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), and Harvard Medical School (HMS) initiatives, accounts, employees, and related issues.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuously interface with the Executive Director to provide support in the capture, analysis, interpretation, and utilization of productivity, financial, research, staffing and training data used in decision-making that meets the needs of the DOU leadership team.

  • Provide input for monthly executive dashboards-capturing operational, billing, scheduling, productivity and administrative information on all DOU and DOU-related BWH lines of business and accounts-for use by DOU and BWH senior management.

  • Review approaches to analysis, business planning and ROI valuations across the DOU divisions, and develop rigorous processes for testing assumptions, estimates of financial and clinical impact, and investment requirements.

  • In conjunction with DOU Leadership team, staffs and prepares for DOU senior leadership meetings as needed and presents work pertaining to current initiatives.

  • In collaboration with the BWPO, Hospital, or DOU business partners, provides project assistance, planning, analysis, and coordination for the implementation of high-profile projects within the DOU administration.

  • Provides internal consulting services to the DOU divisions on operational and financial matters.

  • Assists in the technical aspects of the development of new programs and provides support on a variety of initiatives within the DOU.

  • Researches, collects, and presents information on industry standards and benchmarks that are relevant to an academic medical center .Provides documentation to support relevance of the recommended measures and benchmarks.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, preferably in Business Administration (Accounting or Finance), Health Care Administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years progressive experience in a healthcare setting, and/or strategic planning required; additional years of experience in healthcare financial management/analysis and business planning preferred.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong analysis and modeling skills.

  • Basic understanding of and experience with financial and accounting principals.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills for formal and informal modes of communication. Must be able to articulate, verbally and in writing, clear concise information that addresses the topic. Anticipates additional questions that may arise in the discussion of a topic and obtains information in advance whenever possible.

  • A broad knowledge of organizational theory, systems and analytical approach to problem solving and interrelationships of clinical, teaching and research activities.

  • Ability to independently assess, determine, and evaluate potentially critical factors for consideration when presented with routine or novel projects.

  • Ability to achieve interdepartmental, interdisciplinary and interpersonal collaboration with various stakeholders.

  • Must be able to demonstrate discretion in the exposure to and use of confidential business or patient data/information.

  • Must possess the ability to make sound decisions, knowledge of the situation, and the general understanding of DOU administration's common practices in working with and responding to the constituents of the DOU.

  • Strong Microsoft Office (w/advanced PowerPoint and Excel) required.

  • Analytical skills required, including profit and loss, reimbursement analysis.

  • Ability to generate and encourage creative ideas, innovative thinking, and imaginative solutions to issues or problems.

  • Proven track record of maintaining the highest standards of performance, quality, credibility, and integrity.

  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities within the context of a complex and large organization; ability to operate in a matrix environment.
