The mission of the Office of Facilities Planning and Management (OFPM) in the School of Medicine is to plan for and manage the facilities needs of the School of Medicine community in the areas of facilities operations, capital planning and budgeting, projects from programming through occupancy, space inventory, and facility assets.

Stanford's School of Medicine (SoM) is seeking a Construction Project Manager to join the Office of Facilities Planning and Management (OFPM) Project Management Team.

This position serves as a critical member of the department, not only responsible for independently managing small projects but assisting the Senior Project Managers with larger scale projects on an as needed basis. This position requires construction management and design coordination background with experience in developing and effectively managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and quality of product for interior renovations for office and research facilities. The position requires the ability to oversee multiple projects of various sizes and budgets simultaneously from design through close-out. In addition, possessing the knowledge to compose RFP's, develop logistic plans, oversee design professionals, vendors, and contractors, and financial reporting is critical. This is a Hybrid position.

Duties include:

  • Scope development independently and through collaboration with other internal services

  • Establish preliminary rough order of magnitude cost estimates

  • Develop a detailed schedule with key milestones

  • Develop Requests for Proposals for both design and construction services

  • Cost controls and change management

  • Review & approval of proposals and invoices

  • Daily oversight of design and construction teams

  • Enforcement of contract terms and conditions

  • Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus within scope of responsibility

  • Responsible for customer management and insuring that the project needs align with user expectations

    • Other duties may also be assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-5 years of project management experience in the construction and/or architectural industry.

  • Systems furniture and space planning experience .

  • Move coordination and planning experience.

  • Basic knowledge of California building and regulatory codes is a plus.

  • Experience with Project Management software.

  • Knowledge of Lean Principles and Process Improvement.

  • Must be able to work onsite as required, approximately 20% of the time.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience in management of projects of moderate size/complexity with limited performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.

  • Ability to productively engage and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.

  • Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem solving skills in a variety of situations.

  • Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk based computer tasks and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

  • Occasionally use a telephone, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.

  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds or more.

  • Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver's license.

  • Auditory acuity with ability to hear horns and bells.

  • Visual acuity with ability to determine colors for finishes.

  • Ability to climb scaffolding, ladders, stairs etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work in active laboratories or outdoor environments.

  • May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals /asbestos, or heavy metals or work on roofs at heights greater than 10 ft.

  • May drive vehicle day and night.

  • Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments, and dress for clean rooms.

  • May work extended hours, evenings and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $110,000 to $151,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
