The Project Manager is responsible for overall management of projects including design, communications, personnel management, budgets, schedules, quality control, business development, and client communication & relationships. This position will assist in preparing and implementing annual business goals and multi-year strategic business plans for department. This position will also be responsible for overall personnel management of assigned team members.

  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation & modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

  • Manages clients/projects specific to the discipline and discipline services but can include projects that require multi-discipline services up to $1M revenue.

  • Creates and tracks project budgets & schedules and identifies potential issues; oversees sub-consultants; responsible for project profit objectives.

  • Prepares workload forecasting reports and staffing plans.

  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, survey, and other rules, regulations, and permitting requirements.

  • Possesses knowledge of Codes and Standards applicable to design of projects.

  • Prepares technical and price proposals, statements of interests, amendments, and schedules.

  • Promotes, utilizes, and supports quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce design errors & omissions.

  • Prepares, reviews, and coordinates contract agreement documents for projects. Signs contract agreements within the allotted parameters provided.

  • Identifies new markets, develops leads & opportunities, performs business development activities, and pursues new geographies.

  • Coaches, mentors, and motivates project team members.

  • Directs, mentors, and guides team members and staff; provides annual performance evaluations and career development plans.

  • Manages project risk in accordance with company policy.


  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in position relevant Engineering field from ABET accredited school preferred, or related field of study.

  • Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years' job-related experience.

  • Licensure/Certification: PE, SE, or other relevant licenses within the discipline strongly preferred.

Intermediate to advanced level of knowledge with MS Office, Revit, AutoCAD, Deltek Vision, etc. Must possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a Project Team, possess strong leadership & interpersonal skills, and strong time management skills. Must be able to interact professionally with clients, vendors, regulatory agencies, and other external sources in a professional manner. Must be proficient in public speaking, creating presentations, and delegation.

Overall Responsibilities The Project Manager is responsible for providing technical expertise in the areas of design, development, qualification and validation of packaging and process equipment, systems and components. The individual provides departmental expertise and company leadership for packaging and process equipment while collaborating with Manufacturing, Operations, Research and Development, Supply Chain, Process Excellence and other affiliated departments to identify and address packaging and process equipment and /or validation needs. This position may require management of a small group of equipment engineers, validation engineers and/or contractors. Position Duties & Responsibilities: * Develop and define project scope, project budget, project resource plan, interdependencies, operational and executional plans, and integrated schedule. * Ultimate accountability for Capital plan, monthly and quarterly expenditures and cashflow forecast, contingencies, scope management and change management, ensures that the financial obligations are assessed and collected from Project Controller due to changes or additions to the project scope and communicated to the sponsors for approval. * Plan and execute multiple and/or key packaging equipment and validation assignments including key initiatives concerned with life cycle management initiatives and develop & deploy risk mitigation strategies to deliver project commitments. * Lead and improve multiple and/or large scope packaging processes and various equipment technologies across multiple locations simultaneously. This person will work with sites to provide the best-in-class packaging processes to the J&J Consumer Health Supply Chain. * Lead, develop and execute packaging equipment and validation strategies for the site. Responsibilities include understanding existing limitations and developing technical solutions to eliminate roadblocks. He or she drives value through identifying and executing site projects by improving compliance, quality, efficiency and cost. * Support and/or lead the development and assessment of the following types of information to support package development and life cycle management initiatives, including but not limited to the following activities: design requirements, definition of the scope of change, packaging and equipment solution proposals, prior knowledge and knowledge gap assessments, risk assessments, test plans, and test results analysis and conclusions. * Lead, develop, write, and gain cross-functional alignment of packaging validation documentation for packaging equipment systems and processes. * Support and /or lead the execution of line trials, Engineering studies, process qualification and process performance qualification. * Ensure all trainings and if applicable, those of direct reports including contractors, are current and successfully completed prior to the execution of specific work activities. * Support and/or lead the development, execution and/or review of Change Controls for packaging related changes. * Support and/or lead packaging related investigations, use applicable tools (e.g., Kepner Tregoe or Process Excellence) to facilitate root cause identification, write and/or approve reports as required. * Manages project executions to make sure timing, costs and customer satisfaction objectives are met. * Supervises installation phase directly and ascertains all safety conditions are always in place anytime. * Focuses on Safety, Health & Environmental, as well as Quality and Compliance. Acts in compliance with the J&J Credo, laws, regulations, J&J Policies and any applicable standard. Incorporates requirements of relevant policies, guidelines and standards into project execution and can assess relevance for changed or new technologies. * Seeks for a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and technology. Masters the interaction between materials and machinery. * Identifies and shares user requirements (URS). Drives equipment standardization leveraging global platforms. * Conducts formal comprehensive design reviews with Skin Health & Essentials and Quality subject matter experts and responsible. * Plans equipment modification or installation together with Planning and Production. Proposes alternative to overcome constraints. Highlights criticalities and bottlenecks that may potentially jeopardize project execution. * Liaises with external partners (Suppliers, Constructor, Consultants, etc.) to assure equipment acquisition meets project objectives (timing, performance, etc.) through technical specification definition, design review, acceptance tests, start-up tests, etc. * Manages adequate know how transfer to end users (Production and Maintenance) through execution of formal training sessions. * Provides proper project execution documentation (IQ/OQ protocols/reports) to support equipment qualification. * Supports Production and Maintenance to start up equipment and run performance validation, execute, if necessary, secondary development programs to minimize impacts in production and speed up learning curves. * Innovates through identifying new or state of the art technologies and proposes new ideas for improvement. Identifies opportunities (Cost Improvement Projects, capacity, capability) and assesses capital investment and cost impacts. Contributes to the BP Capital projects definition phase.
