Founded in 2005, Change Machine is a national social impact organization that aims to build financial security for low income people through people-powered technology. We strive to do this in 3 ways. First, we've developed a financial empowerment software that brings relevant financial coaching pathways and resources to partner organizations across the country. Second, we use our resources and voice to research and advocate for inclusive economic policy measures at the national, regional and local levels. And finally, we work with our community of partners and practitioners to change the narratives surrounding the myths of those experiencing low income conditions, the need for financial technology to create a shared prosperity, and the vision for policy that serves to bring forth inclusive economic development. About the Opportunity

Change Machine is looking to hire a Project Manager for a new project called Tax Truths. By researching the experiences of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) recipients primarily Black and Brown women who head low-income households and amplifying the findings of that research, Change Machine aims to shift public perceptions of taxes and support worker-led movements on the issue of tax equity. This project has secured a large, national intermediary as its primary implementation partner to reach low-wage filers.

The Project Manager will be a part of the Development and Marketing team and be responsible for the day to day operations of the project including project design, assignment of deliverables to meet milestones, timeline and budget management, and relationship building with key stakeholders. This position will be a contract position for two years with the possibility of extension.

Program Coordination and Design

  • Translate the direction, goals, and targets of the project into a project action plan.
  • Collaborate with members of the senior team to make project-related decisions.
  • Coordinate contributions and deliverables across departments and hold teams accountable to project timelines.
  • Provide day-to-day administrative and management support to ensure project execution including tasks such as calendaring, agenda coordination, note taking, etc.

Relationship Management

  • Build and manage relationships with key external stakeholders including community based organizations and foundations.
  • Build relationships with internal departments at all levels including senior leadership.
  • Collect, disseminate, and memorialize lessons learned, project stories, and success across departments and workstreams.

Project Communication

  • Provide regular updates and communications to the organization about the state of the project and how the project aligns with Change Machines mission and vision.
  • Draft project updates, materials that describe the purpose and outcomes of the project, and formal reports for funders.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience as a project manager or coordinator ideally in a non profit, social service, or policy setting
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders at a variety of levels within organizations
  • A strong level of comfort in working across multiple work streams and holding individuals accountable to milestones and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities
  • Experience applying a racial equity lens in projects related to narrative change or story collection
  • Experience working in partnership with low-income Black and Latino community organizations on projects to address financial security
  • An interest in changing and reforming tax policy for low-income communities of color
