Purpose:

Support Supply Chain Operations and Facilities by executing small to medium projects that are required to ensure safe, clean, and efficient operations of UNFI's distribution network while also remaining compliant with regulations and requirements for food distribution. Responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third- party contractors or consultants to deliver projects according to plan. Defines project objectives and oversees quality control throughout its life cycle.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate internally for all scope, budget, costs, design and CapEx related items and issues for the life of the project. Coordinates alignment amongst internal stake holders to ensure smooth project move-in and move-out. Initiates, coordinates, and approves the project close-out process. Responsible for providing effective coordination between internal stakeholders, team members and outside parties i.e. landlords, design consultants & governmental agencies as required to keep the lines of communication open and to achieve the desired project outcomes

  • Coordinate externally for all scope, budget, costs, design and CapEx related items and issues for the life of the project. Responsible for directing outside consultants, designers, engineers, etc. in the production of contract documents for assigned projects. Provide design professionals with company standards & criteria and performs intermediate and final plan reviews to assure design integrity and compliance. Approves project-related expenditures, processes change orders for contracted work, and monitors ongoing costs for compliance with approved budgets. Conducts performance evaluation on vendors at conclusion of each project conferring with the directors of Construction and Facilities as needed regarding changes in vendor pre-qualified status based upon evaluation. Recommends and evaluates contractors, engineers and architects to be added to the pre-qualified list

  • Advise Construction and Facilities teams and other stakeholders to develop and maintain the company's standards to ensure network continuity and regulatory compliance. Works with Directors of Construction and Supply Chain CapEx and Facilities and project team members to develop and maintain the company's Construction Standards to ensure network continuity. Responsible for the assigned project's completion according to the company's standards for criteria, time, cost, and quality

  • Coordinate and lead on-site surveys of proposed projects as required for budgeting, planning, cross- functional coordination, etc. Is the contact internally and externally for all scope, budget, costs, design and construction related items and issues for the life of the project. Develops preliminary project costs, creates and manages project budgets, and facilitates project budget approval. Maintains and is accountable for the budget through completion of project. Reviews and approves contractors' application for payment as authorized in management approved contract and purchase orders. Coordinates and leads on-site surveys for new projects, as required

  • Direct outside architects & engineers in the production of contract documents for assigned projects. Provides design professionals with company standards & criteria and performs intermediate and final plan reviews to assure design integrity and compliance. Provides recommendations and design input to ensure that financial, branding, IT, Security & Loss Prevention, Operations, and Heath + Safety objectives for projects are met

  • Solicit proposals for services, negotiate fees, and oversee contract preparation while realizing UNFI's large scale buying power. Assembles and approves contractor bidder list for each assigned project. Provides ongoing evaluation of best practice standards. Provides new idea input and recommendations for criteria and processes construction

  • Utilize RTA to identify needs within network and advise Facilities/Construction teams on priorities and budgeting

  • Conduct field inspections on assigned projects, ensuring contractors' compliance with contract documents and takes necessary corrective action to ensure objectives are achieved, as required. Evaluates performance of architects, engineers and other consultants and provides recommendations for future work. Provides training and supervision to consultants and professionals regarding company standards and criteria

  • Update and ensure complete records in RTA upon project completion

  • Cross-coordinate and advise Strategic Sourcing to identify new vendors and partnerships to realize UNFI's buying power

Job Requirements:

Education/Certification:

  • BS in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field

Experience:

  • 3+ years of related construction or facilities management experience required

  • Previous experience with and knowledge of facility maintenance operations, material handling equipment, refrigeration systems, racking systems, dock equipment, etc.

  • Experience developing cost reduction, cost avoidance, cost containment programs (e.g. value analysis, consolidation of orders/suppliers, lead time reduction, activity based costing)

Skills/ Abilities:

  • Possess excellent management and leadership skills and the ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results

  • Advanced computer skills including but not limited to the Microsoft office suite, DocuSign, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and SharePoint

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills. This role requires an attention to detail and must be able to oversee multiple priorities and act independently to ensure responsibilities are completed and timelines are adhered to

  • High level interpersonal, communication (written, verbal, non-verbal) and customer service skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
