The Project Manager oversees a variety of tasks including the planning of construction projects and overseeing the progress to completion in a timely and cost-effective manner


  • Responsible for successful delivery of multiple construction projects from project conception, through creation of construction documents and turnover to onsite facilities department. Coordinates projects with management, customers, consultants, public entities and onsite maintenance staff. Maintains records of ongoing construction for proper as-built documentation and turnover to facility manager.

  • Coordinate and directs suppliers, construction workers and subcontractors to ensure work is completed to meet project timelines. Inspect projects to ensure all work meets quality standards and conforms to design specifications.

  • Manage budget and schedule to ensure subcontractor awards and material purchases meet established project goals and timelines.

  • Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive jobsite safety program. Perform daily site safety inspections to ensure compliance regarding all safety and health requirements.

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • 7+ years' experience in construction management or similar role.

  • Degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or related field.

  • OSHA 30 hour course, or ability to promptly receive certification

  • Previous experience in management position or;

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant codes, regulations and quality standards.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and project management skills

  • Command of Microsoft project; CAD experience a plus

The incumbent manages a number of small-scale construction projects and assists higher-level staff with the oversight of large-scale construction projects. The incumbent manages such projects for compliance with budget, time, scope, quality and safety considerations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Capital Projects and Assistant Director of Capital Projects. Supervision is exercised over a number of lower-level staff such as technical, maintenance and construction personnel. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Manages a number of small-scale construction projects and assists in the management of large-scale construction projects; Evaluates project objectives within the parameters of quality, safety, budget, time and scope; evaluates the work performance of applicable staff, vendors and contractors; Assists in the development and maintenance of staffing assignments and project schedules; Meets with various stakeholders on project status and related matters; works with project staff to identify and convey matters requiring higher-level intervention; Prepares project reports and project meeting minutes; schedules and conducts project status meetings; Works with vendors and contractors on payment application processing and matters related to work invoices for services; Assists in the development of planning and scheduling of medical equipment procurement related to future construction projects; Assists in the planning and scheduling of patient and staff relocations due to construction work; assists in the planning and scheduling of utility shutdown due to construction work; Identifies positive and negative performance aspects and uses such to assist in the development and incorporation of best practices and improvement initiatives; Documents supporting information on design solutions provided by architects, engineers, etc. Participates in the development of project procurement plans; Assists in the development of processes, policies and standards; Monitors project activities for the occurrence of risks and takes timely action to mitigate the risks; Participates in meetings, committees, trainings, professional organizations, etc. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of building construction and architectural design principles, practices, terminology, materials, technology and trades as they relate to small-scale and large-scale commercial construction; thorough knowledge of project management techniques and practices; thorough knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations and standards as they relate to commercial construction work; good knowledge of budget development and monitoring techniques and practices; strong analytical skill; ability to understand and interpret complex and technical written material such as contracts, plans, specifications, codes, regulations, etc.; ability to express engineering and architectural concepts orally and in writing; ability to supervise, plan and evaluate the work of others; ability to coordinate and direct multiple project participants within disparate deadlines; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications including construction administration and scheduling software; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering or closely related field and five (5) years of experience in commercial construction project management.
