Project Manager, Business Development

Position Overview: Shape the future of NYC's business landscape with us! As a Project Manager (PM) on our Business Development (Biz Dev) team, you will play a pivotal role in driving economic growth and innovation in one of the world's most dynamic cities.

Your mission? To advise and assist mid-large size businesses/clients expanding or relocating to NYC, bolstering the city's business ecosystem and creating opportunities for New Yorkers. Working closely with the Director of Business Development, you'll spearhead efforts to attract and retain businesses aligned with EDC's priorities, such as tech, life sciences, and sustainable industries. Thrive on building relationships with diverse stakeholders, from local developers to industry leaders, and stay abreast of emerging sectors like AI, fintech, and climate-tech. Collaborate with internal teams, city agencies, and private-sector partners to craft compelling proposals and seize strategic opportunities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Advise businesses and work with their management teams to understand needs solutions that enable relocation or expansion of their operations to NYC.

• Provide guidance to businesses, including navigating tax incentives, locating office space, increasing their workforce, and seeking strategic ecosystem introductions.

• Organize tours, including office/manufacturing/research sites and meet with potential partners for prospective businesses (e.g., academic, government agencies, etc.)

• Work collaboratively with internal departments to create tailored proposals that address the needs and interests of clients, selling them on the value proposition of NYC.

• Create and deliver presentations, pitch-decks, memorandums and other materials that include project recommendations and solutions to business management teams, and respective internal and external audiences

• Build and maintain relationships with internal departments to create external awareness of EDC programs and initiatives, identify collaboration opportunities, and increase brand awareness.

• Develop project plans from inception through execution, including work plans with analyses, scope, timelines, individual responsibilities, etc.

• Maintain pipeline of clients using CRM tools and KPIs, stay abreast with developments in key industries and target companies, and proactively identify actionable opportunities or potential partnerships.

• Develop and maintain network that can generate new business development opportunities.

• Interact with local, state, and diplomatic missions to coordinate efforts to promote NYC that enhances foreign investments in NYC's economy and businesses via marketing/promotion programs.

• Represent EDC at stakeholder gatherings, events and conference, and organize EDC's involvement for impactful local and national events that align with priorities.

Industry Specific Advisory:

• Lead the tech attraction, expansion, retention portfolio and act as liaison with the tech initiatives team

• Execute the Biz Dev Venture Capital (VC) strategy and advise VCs on the locations of their portfolio companies

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree, Master's is a plus

• 2+ years of relevant experience, in a demanding analytical, strategic or entrepreneurial environment; project management, business development, international trade and/or economic development

• Experience managing complex projects and driving business growth is a plus

• Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships with CRM tools (e.g., MS Dynamics, Salesforce) is a plus

• Demonstrated communication and presentation skills, including conveying complex details to senior leaders

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders

• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations

• Project management experience; including designing, launching and managing projects against timelines

• Demonstrated ability to handle competing priorities and multiple projects simultaneously

• Proven competency in use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Demonstrated interest, knowledge or experience in key industries, such as tech, life sciences, and sustainable industries, and familiarity with emerging sectors like AI, fintech, and climate-tech

• Ability to travel within five boroughs of New York City, and attend evening and occasional weekend meetings as needed

• New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire

Position Funding: This position is funded by International Business Development funds provided by external funding. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of funds. Funds are expected until August 31, 2026. Employment at NYCEDC is at will and may be terminated by employee or company at any time regardless of funding.

Salary Range

$70,000-$72,000 USD
