CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can commit to work throughout the year - part-time up to 15-20 hours in the Spring/Fall AND full-time 40 hours in the summer.

The intern position resides within the Sales Operations Unit at CareFirst. This team is responsible for operational functions for sales and specialty projects. The position will focus on the commercial business line. We are looking for a student who is interested in working in a team environment but is also able to work independently on specific projects and initiatives that will allow for continuous learning and the ability to make an impact on the department and organization.

This position may include the following duties: Understand and become familiar with healthcare insurance sales processes. Conduct process mapping sessions, document workflows and streamline standard operating procedures. Identify process improvement opportunities. Formulate excel spreadsheets and PDF Java departmental application. Create PowerPoint, Visio's and support departmental projects and initiatives. Salesforce customer relationship management (CRM) administration and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or university at either the junior or senior level (undergraduate)

  • Target Majors: Healthcare Management, Project Management and/or Business Related

  • Graduate level students are strongly preferred

  • GPA: 3.0 or above

  • Salesforce experience preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills

  • Must be able to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint) and the Internet

Responsibilities and Duties: The intern will be an integral member of the Product Lifecycle Management team, located in Owings Mills, MD. This position may include the following duties: Understand insurance products in-depth. Analyze and gather competitive intelligence information for differing lines of business (medical, dental, pharmacy, life, disability, wellness, etc.). Formulate excel spreadsheets and calculate comparisons for departmental analysis. Assist with development, review and fulfillment of marketing materials.
