University of Michigan Health (UMH) is seeking a Project Manager / Senior Architect to join the Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) team. FPD provides user consultation and support services at numerous stages of project implementation including concept development, planning, budgeting, funding, design, engineering, construction administration, project activation and limited commissioning. Responsibilities*

  • Serves as Facilities Planning and Development liaison with specific clinical and support departments. Leverages the understanding of department?s operation, opportunities, and challenges to assist in solving problems, prioritizing requests, decision making, and setting of strategic direction.

  • Completes review and analysis of facility improvement and equipment addition/upgrade/replacement/ requests. Completes or oversees preparation of facility investigation reports. Formulates opinions of project probable cost and project requirements. Develops project scopes, schedules/milestones, and budgets.

  • Oversees, manages, and reviews all aspects of project delivery for both owned and leased facilities to ensure compliance with client expectations and UMH guidelines. Completes, directs, or monitors the completion of programming, design development, construction documents. bidding, and construction. Directly manages deactivation and activation activities. Assist with preparation of equipment and furniture specifications. Coordinates delivery, removal, and installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment with vendors and/or FPD support staff. Ensures that project record documents (as-builts, O&M manuals, etc.) are properly archived and shared with appropriate staff and partners.

  • Directs the contracting and activities of retained consultants, contractors, and vendors. Reviews and approves fee proposals and payments for services. Completes negotiation where appropriate.

  • Regularly advises verbally and in writing on status, potential opportunities, and possible risks of projects to leadership, project partners, and end users. Prepare reports, presentations, correspondence, meeting minutes, and other documents to ensure timely and efficient communication and decision making.

  • Prepares scope of work and cost estimates for maintenance, repair, and corrective work requests of all sizes and complexity. Supports the ongoing Facility Condition Assessment program for building related items.

  • Supports facility operations and regulatory compliance with respect to healthcare regulations and building codes. Assists in the development and updating of UMH facility design guidelines and preferred manufactures lists.

Required Qualifications*

  • Licensed as an Architect in the State of Michigan is desired.

  • Professional degree in Architecture/Engineering (Master or Bachelor of Architecture) accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).

  • At least 5 years experience in project management and facilities design.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare procedures and equipment.

  • Understanding of healthcare facility design and construction guidelines, building codes, and barrier-free standards.

  • Solid leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work well in a team setting and possess good collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to determine project scopes, schedules, and budgets.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Autodesk AutoCad.

Background Screening
