The opportunity:

As the Project Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating the planning, organizing, and completion of engineering projects with the area of assigned responsibility. This position requires both independent and team collaboration work. The scope of the core duties will be of large-scale capital projects ranging from $100K to +$10MM in capital investment and 3 months to +2 years in lifecycle. Building engineering processes to define and participate in the development of projects to implement or improve manufacturing efficiency and/or general process improvements and initiatives.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Provide technical direction, assistance and engineered problem solutions to maintenance and operating personnel.

  • Coordinates and supervises work with outside contractors on various sized capital projects. Maintain projects on budget and on schedule.

  • Manage all phases of capital and expense projects from inception through final project, supporting mill goals for safety, environmental and other concerns.

  • Outlines project requirements, assigns tasks, and supervises progress to ensure that project objectives are being met.

  • Manages ongoing facilities infrastructure maintenance programs.

  • Assist in the attainment of mill goals by serving on special teams or supplying teams with necessary technical support and responds to field questions.

  • Ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in various forms, and deal with several abstract and/or concrete variables simultaneously.

  • Ability to assess situations based on facts and quickly react to provide direction to employees involved. Assists with troubleshooting and fixing plant problems.

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and summarize information and written materials. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and documents.

What you need to succeed:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree with 2-4 years of industrial work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be able to generate drawings, specifications, and instructions necessary to convey project requirements to others.

  • Dedication to ensuring a safe work environment, ensuring inherent process safety is adhered to on all project designs and ensuring all projects receive adequate hazard reviews prior to installation, and managing project safety.

  • Ability to maintain a balance of work priorities and complete assignments within established timeframes is required.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is essential. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to draw valid conclusions.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills including ability to present information in a clear and concise manner to staff and employees at all levels.
