Requirements

  • 10+ years relevant experience in project engineering or system engineering involving optical networks

  • Ability to coordinate a multi-disciplinary engineering team to solve complex network engineering problems

  • Understand the principles of optical network systems and design

  • Ability to create/review test procedures

  • Experience identifying and managing technical risks and mitigation plans

  • Capable of interfacing with all departments in ViaSat, vendors, and subcontractors

  • Oversee and review work done by other engineers (HW, SW, ME, CE, etc.), technicians and other support staff

  • Ability to estimate efforts accurately and thoroughly

  • Experience leading and interfacing with teams of multiple disciplines utilizing system's engineering tools and resources

  • Ability to perform project and resource planning

  • Able to think at the system level as well as the component level

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • BS in Technical Discipline

  • U.S citizenship or permanent resident status required

Our Employee Value Proposition Critical to the needs of our Sub-Fabrication department, the Project Engineer will serve as an extension of the Project Manager in the oversight of steel fabrication performed by subcontractors ("sub-fabricators") and is responsible for management of sub-fabrication from the submittal stage to fabrication completion and delivery of materials. Key Performance Objectives (not an all-inclusive list of duties/expectations) * Interfaces with Project Manager and necessary departments to assist in the scheduling of work and materials to and from sub-fabricators. * Coordinates shipping schedules and load arrangements between sub-fabricator and jobsite or Schuff Steel facilities. * Provides input and direction to aid in the preparation and maintenance of all sub-fabrication backlogs and schedules. * Acts as the conduit for information flowing between the Project Manager and the sub-fabricators while working closely with the Purchasing and Production Control departments. * Makes regularly scheduled visits to sub-fabricator plants as required and reports progress or issues to Project Team. * Inspects steel being fabricated in sub-fabricator plants and ensures work conforms to project-specific quality requirements. * Tracks, understands and reports on sub-fabricator's adherence to the project schedule. * Works with Project Team and Quality Assurance department to expedite corrective action resolutions for non-conforming items. * Ensures that the proper drawings are being utilized in the sub-fabricator's plant. * Works closely with Project Team on efficiently incorporating changes to the sub-fabricator's scope of work to minimize cost and schedule impacts. * Reports status of materials, fabrication and any variation in scheduled activities. * Assists in activities required to close out sub-fabricator contracts on a project. * Ability to travel (regional/national) 50% of the time Education and Experience * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management or Engineering * Three (3) to six (6) years of related experience in the structural steel and/or general construction industry.
