Requirements

  • 15+ years relevant experience in project engineering or system engineering

  • Strong customer interface skills with ability to work in high pressure situations professionally

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience leading and collaborating with teams of multiple disciplines utilizing systems engineering tools and resources along with the capability to interface with all departments at Viasat, and our vendors, subcontractors and customers

  • Experience working with Software Development programs including development, testing, and customer sustainment

  • Understanding of the government's airborne communications requirements that support VIPSAM missions

  • Knowledge of the government's program teams and organizations responsible for executing VIPSAM requirements

  • Ability to think at the system level as well as the component level

  • Ability to work between high level requirements to low level system specifications

  • Working knowledge of IP/Networking equipment, including configuration, application and troubleshooting of routers, switches, TCP-IP networks, Crypto, Wi-Fi, VoIP and VTC

  • Ability to perform project and resource planning

  • Ability to estimate efforts accurately and thoroughly

  • Knowledge of production flows and processes

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a Technical Field

  • US Government Program, US Citizenship Required

  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities * Responsible for product line extension and product improvement projects * Responsible for multiple projects concurrently * Provides technical leadership, project management and occasional supervision of junior engineers, technicians, interns and support staff * Interacts with engineering, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing and management to assure that product development priorities are met, while ensuring quality and product performance * Develops schedules and budgets, and drives projects to completion meeting project deliverables * Develops products, and resolves issues through the use of technical tools, CAE, rapid prototyping, environmental testing and technical knowledge * Product development activities include design and development, rigorous design reviews * Incorporates lessons learned from existing products, product verification and field validation * Coordinates with Quality Assurance to develop appropriate documentation Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * BS degree in Mechanical Engineering; MS or other advanced degree * 10+ yrs. of product design and project engineering experience, with increasing level of responsibility * Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts * Experience in project management, scheduling, and mechanical budget development * Proficiency in 3D solid modeling CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred) * Experience with SolidWorks simulation software and mold flow simulation software * Knowledge of Mold Flow analysis and tolerance analysis * Experience in injection molded plastic component design * Detailed knowledge of injection molding tool designs and concepts * Experience with tool makers both domestically and abroad * In-depth knowledge of plastic material uses and applications * Proven design experience of high-quality, low-cost, high-volume products * Proven success in product development as a member of or leader of a cross-functional team * Willingness to undertake moderate travel to facilities in So.
