The Role:

This role focuses on engineering design, project execution, asset lifecycle management, drawing management, construction standards, and ensuring overall system reliability at critical energy facilities and pipeline systems. This role will also participate in revision, implementation and adhering to NW Natural's specs and standards as well as Product Review, Implementation and Standardization Method (PRISM). The position requires working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other Engineering Departments. The successful candidate will work with cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to optimizing NW Natural's safety, infrastructure, equipment, and devices. Ensuring service continuity and fulfillment of installation commitments while meeting customer needs, cost objectives, governmental requirements, and safety and engineering standards.

This role will lead multidiscipline engineering projects covering, mechanical, civil, instrumentation, and controls for gas storage facilities, compressors, control systems, odorization, CNG/LNG equipment, and special projects as required.

Day to Day:

  • Oversee engineering, planning, coordination, construction, and monitoring of projects related to NW Natural's gas storage facilities and compressor stations.
  • Perform analysis of alternatives and develop recommendations with subject matter experts (SMEs) including operations for the best value solution.
  • Provide design and project management expertise for NW Natural's gas storage facilities and compressor stations including but not limited to turbine compressors, reciprocating compressors, gas dehydration systems, pipeline system controls, metering, odorization and special projects.
  • Responsible for projects and technical studies throughout planning, final completion, and post project support.
  • Lead and collaborate with contracted specialty engineering firms for complex multidisciplinary projects and processes.
  • Execute on field construction activities and support discipline specific requests for information.
  • Review and approve construction drawings within the facilities to ensure engineering standards and code requirements are met.
  • Assist in preparing budget, analyzing costs/benefits; continuously evaluating cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities with long term facility budgeting and planning.
  • Generate and maintain as-built drawings, P&ID's, and related documentation for facility records.
  • Develop specifications, schematics, and detailed system documentation for all facility systems, including all end devices.
  • Manage and execute lifecycle management plans and financial forecasts for all systems including field devices.
  • Support maintenance team with spare part recommendations, lists, and procedure support.
  • Ensure compliance with CFR 192, ASME 31.8. ASME 31.3, NEC, NFPA, and other relevant standards and codes.
  • Respond to emergency system outages or scheduled maintenance activities, including off-hours work when necessary.
  • Position requires field site visits throughout the NW Natural operational region to lead on-site engineering, design, construction inspection, and commissioning.
  • Position requires the ability and willingness to be available for on-call response, and off-hours site commissioning or upgrade activities.

Come on your first day with:

  • BS in a related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university, P.E. license preferred for Level 3
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in similar position required for Level 2. Minimum of 5 years of experience for Level 3.
  • Ability to register as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role overseeing and coordinating complex planning and project implementation programs.
  • Ability to plan and effectively manage a wide variety of construction projects.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing multiple tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities consistent with Company strategies and goals.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of the following: ASME B31 pressure piping, CFR 192, federal pipeline safety rules, American Public Works Association, construction standards, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, government representatives and contractor personnel on technical matters governing construction projects.
  • Ability to analyze budget reports and construction summaries.
  • Ability to develop new construction approaches and procedures.
  • Strong writing skills including technical documentation and report preparation.
  • Ability to visit and access construction and other work site locations as required.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Must obtain a valid Oregon/Washington driver's license within 90 days if current valid license is from another state.

Base salary range: $86,500.00 - $123,250.00 (Level 2) or $107,500.00 - $153,200.00 (Level 3) per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Level 2, 9.5% target

Level 3, 12.0% target

Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% - 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
