SCOPE OF DUTIES

The duties of the Project Engineer - Naval Architect shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Prepares Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering basic design calculations utilizing industry standard software.

  • Uses technical knowledge to update drawings to reflect current vessel configuration resulting from project modifications.

  • Exercises discretion in the management of project issues, schedules and budgets, uses technical knowledge of current regulatory requirements to make decisions, performs stability and structural analyses to support fleet operations, conducts surveys to gather field data and liaises with regulatory bodies

  • Fleet technical operational support functions shall include, but not be limited to, responding to requests from vessel operations managers, the fleet, the maintenance department and commercial representatives for technical verification and/or documentation of vessel technical characteristics and capabilities. Support shall range from verification / validation of vessel capabilities and regulatory compliance to vessel conversions to meet customer / mission requirements.

  • Complete engineering designs and development of least cost innovative solutions to complex engineering problems as directed in full compliance with all class society and regulatory body requirements. Focus on optimizing designs against HOS standards, safety and HMI requirements and take the time to obtain operations and commercial feedback.

  • Provide technical support for company commercial activity. Complete technical proposals including working with the appropriate sales and business development representatives to qualify fleet assets against client requirements, and to perform engineering feasibility studies, work scope development, cost and schedule analysis for any potential capital conversion projects associated with bidding activity.

  • New Construction / Major Modification / Conversion Design and Documentation Supervision: Develop, review and approve specifications, drawings, plans, sketches and other information pertaining to construction and commissioning of major modification/conversion projects to ensure compliance by contracting shipyards, consultants and vendors with company specifications, class society and regulatory body requirements, and vessel service functionalities. Integration and organization of technical documentation, including distribution of knowledge and interface management, shall be performed.

  • Major Modification / Conversion Cost Accounting: Project Engineers shall develop project budget, review and evaluate shipyard/contractor and vendor quotes and shall keep track of costs using Company's project accounting tools.

  • Owner Furnished Equipment Supervision: Review, recommend, and specify for purchase, company furnished equipment and materials necessary for construction and operational outfitting of vessels.

  • Vendor Review: Review equipment vendor and contract architect-engineer technical deliverables for compliance with specifications and required installed performance. Attendance of factory or shipyard tests may be required.

  • Technical Writing and Project Reporting: Project Engineers shall use computer office, technical and AutoCAD drafting tools for preparation of project technical presentations and project reports to middle and senior management.

  • Fleet Integration: Assimilation of technical documentation, certification and vessel system functions toward training shore based and fleet employees in correct, safe and efficient operation of company new build vessels following delivery to the company. Integration of new building vessels into company safety management system, including maintenance program and bridge management system integration.

  • Fleet Technology: Including but not limited to the perpetual review of allied or emerging technologies for application to company vessel or operating systems as they inure to the benefit of cost reduction or value enhancement for commercial activity of fleet operations.

  • Protect the Company. Meet corporate regulatory, safety, environmental and configuration management compliance objectives. Ensure all engineering contracts and purchases are reviewed and include appropriate protection provisions. Ensure strict confidentiality of all Company information; do not disclose any information outside the Company without prior approval at the Director level or above.

  • Job functions shall be as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and are not otherwise limited. The nature of the responsibilities of the incumbent shall be such that some overlap with fleet operational and maintenance responsibilities may occur. In such circumstances, incumbent shall perform job functions as advised and directed by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering or an equivalent marine related technical discipline.

Experience: Five (5) or more years in positions of increasing responsibility for the design, construction, repair and operation of marine vessels. In depth knowledge of marine industry, vessel classification and regulatory requirements is essential.

Skills:

  • Functional capability in AutoCad.

  • Experience using GHS or equivalent stability software

  • Working knowledge of structural design software such as RISA 3D, Solidworks, Inventor or similar.

  • Working knowledge of hydrodynamic softwares such as MOSES, WAMIT, or similar.,

  • FEA and CFD experience is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Functional capability in MS Windows and MS Office applications.

  • Ability to get along well with others.

Certification: Valid driver's license, TWIC and passport.

Must be willing to board and ride vessels to increase understanding of how this role supports our business.

DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Eyesight: Functional, correctable to 20/20

Hearing: Functional, correctable to normal to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.

Speech: Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.

Mobility: Unencumbered by physical limitations to perform the following activities: walking, climbing, reaching, crawling, lifting (less than 50 pounds), and driving standard and automatic vehicles.

HOURS OF WORK

Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am until 5:00pm, excluding travel and overtime and maybe adjusted by supervisor. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Potential exists for extensive overtime as required by responsibilities and as directed by supervisor.

Note: Rotation schedule may vary and is subject to change based on vessel requirements.
