Moog Space and Defense Group is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Niagara Falls Engineering team within the Space sector as a leader for programs involving the design and manufacture of rocket engines and propulsion systems.

Project Engineer, Engines Business Unit - Niagara Falls, NY

The Project Engineer is the face of Moog, technical lead, and point of contact to customers on design, development, and production programs on space propulsion hardware. The incumbent will coordinate the work of drafters, technicians, designers, analysts, manufacturing engineers and others who assist in specific assignments. This position will also be responsible for supporting new proposal efforts and the execution of existing and new rocket engine programs as well as the execution of fully integrated propulsion systems. Facilitative leadership is also required with program management, quality engineering, and operations.

The position will be based out of and operate primarily out of the Niagara Falls facility, however work based out of the East Aurora, NY Facility may also be required based on the needs of assigned projects. This role will report to the Project/Product Engineering Manager out of Niagara Falls.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead responsible engineer and technical point of contact to customers on design, development, and production of space propulsion hardware, primarily with rocket engines and chemical propulsion systems.

  • Lead bid and proposal of new projects providing scope definitions, defining project schedules, assessing technical compliance, technical volume generation, and providing engineering estimates.

  • Preparation for engineering reports associated with assigned projects and/or models.

  • Lead and coordinate efforts of supporting engineering functions, e.g., Product Engineering, Design Engineering, Drafting.

  • Contribute to conceptual design and analysis discussions and efforts for rocket engine and propulsion system development programs.

  • Author/prepare Development and Production Assembly/Test documentation including worksheets (shop travelers), acceptance test procedures, etc.

  • Lead engineering support for Hot Fire of rocket engines for development and production programs in coronation with the lead design engineer as necessary or applicable.

  • Coordination of development and production hardware fabrication, assembly, and test.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of MS Degree (Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Electrical Engineering preferred) with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

  • Alternately, a BS Degree with a minimum of 6 years of related project or product engineering experience;

  • or a PhD

  • Experience with design, analysis, and development of complex systems and have a proven record of successful development programs working as a part of a project in a leading role.

  • Ability to work independently with a strong technical foundation. Previous experience supporting propulsion hardware preferred.

  • Self-starting instincts and an eagerness to own all aspects of an assigned project.

Salary Range:

  • The base pay range for this opportunity is $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year.

Actual salaries will vary depending on many factors such as skills, experience, certifications and performance. The rate listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
