Job Description:

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for mechanical design and associated project coordination/communication. The successful candidate will require the knowledge and skills to provide Project Engineering for all disciplines of work including; Process, Packaging and Facilities.

This candidate will play an integral role in the development and success of the Irvine office. It is imperative that this candidate have a very well rounded background and a "can do" attitude. Versatility will be a key attribute of this person as they will perform a very wide range of engineering task including but not limited to the development of:

  • Process flow diagrams

  • Process P&ID

  • Packaging equipment layouts

  • As built general arrangements drawings for any and all aspects of a manufacturing facility

  • Facility conceptual arrangements (non-licensed)

  • Contractor scope of work documents

  • Contractor coordination

  • Contractor bid review, leveling and recommendations

  • OEM scope of work documents

  • OEM coordination

  • OEM bid review, leveling and recommendations

  • Assistance with client proposals

  • Assistance with client presentations

  • Single line electrical drawings (non-licensed)

  • Equipment FAT development and execution

Requirements

This position requires a working knowledge of unit operations, process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams. In addition, it will be valuable to understand; material handling methods, equipment sizing/specifications and utility/facility definition requirements.

This position requires a strong working knowledge of packaging equipment including equipment sizing/specifications as well the activities required to effectively communicate and manage OEM's. This position requires strong analytical skills, basic understanding of project management fundamentals as well as strong computer skills (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project).

Candidate needs to possess effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. This position requires an individual who is a self-starter and can work with minimal supervision in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 10 years of industrial project engineering and design experience

  • Specific experience with Life Sciences is preferred

Education

B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering is preferred but consideration will be given to other engineering degrees based on actual project experience.

Travel Requirements

One of the primary goals of this position is to help ensure a steady flow of business through the Seattle and adjacent offices. In the event that business in Seattle does not support full time local work, this candidate will be expected to travel 20 80 % of the time. This travel will be required to support development, design, installation and start-up activities, attend client meetings and company sponsored training. The vast majority of this travel will be in the Western Regional marketplace.

Job Summary: The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: * Perform airport programming and planning assignments in conjunction with airport terminal planners * Perform stakeholder engagement activities to obtain input for planning and programming airport terminal and associated facilities. * Prepare project definition manuals to memorialize planning and programming findings * Develop and conduct presentations, public speaking and prepare written communications through good writing skills * Provide oversight of project design consultant(s) and all design and submittal reviews * Coordinate project designs and design reviews with owner departments, stakeholders and applicable governing agencies * Collect and reconcile comments from internal design reviews and stakeholder input * Evaluate and provide recommendations to Lead Design Manager/Program Manager/Program Director for changes and/or modifications to the design consultant scope of services * Monitor project design cost and schedule control vs. project budget * Provide review and verify progress payments of design consultants * Perform reviews and develop recommendations in the proposed settlement of change orders, claims, and revisions to the design contract schedule and budget * Assist in the development of RFQs and RFPs, and provide support as requested during the procurement process * Close out the design review process and transition the project to the Construction Manager * Provide (or oversee the provision of) construction support/administration services, to include responding to all Requests for Information (RFIs), Submittals, shop drawings and other design-related inquiries * Report to the Program Manager/Program Director and be responsible for the successful delivery of the project design phase activities, design budget, compliance, scope definition, construction delivery support and field engineering from inception through closeout of all projects Minimum Requirements * BA/BS plus 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership. Preferred Qualifications * Professional Licence in Engineering or Architecture. * 15 plus years of experience in managing aviation design projects * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Able to obtain a SIDA-cleared badge at Airports * Possess a valid Class C driver's license, and be able to obtain certification to drive on Airport's AOA movement area * Minimum ten (10) years of progressive US and International aviation design and construction experience at major (large & medium) hub airports * The candidate must have demonstrated experience in managing the design and implementation teams on large, complex aviation programs with at a minimum of one (1) program at a major-hub airport with a capital program of at least $500 million * Experience with and understanding of LEED certification requirements, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules and guidelines are preferred. * Experience with alternative project delivery methods (for example design-bid-build, design-build, and construction manager at risk) * Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required * Willing to travel for project assignments What We Offer When you join AECOM, you become part of a company that is pioneering the future .
