OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Engineering/Safety Supervisor, as a fully qualified engineer, will review, evaluate and execute independently technical engineering duties applicable to mechanical and systems operations. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures relying on extensive experience and judgment to perform functions of the job. Performs duties within Engineering department's assessments of systems and operations associated with hypergolic propellants, cryogenics, pneumatics and life support equipment. This is a union represented, non-exempt position with the Teamsters and the hourly pay rate is $57.69.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Responsible for preparation, review and implementation of system designs as necessary to support overall project objectives.
Performs engineering calculations, assessments, studies, etc. as necessary in support of daily operations involving cryogenic liquids, pressurized gases, and hypergolic missile propellants.
Assists Engineering/Safety Supervisor in the development of estimates for "Work Requests" or small jobs considered additional to the scope of the contract which requires detailed analysis (hours and costs) for a particular effort.
Performs Engineering oversight ensuring the Mechanical Integrity Inspections of hazardous systems that identify, document, and resolve of system deficiencies are in compliance.
Oversees subcontractors throughout project phases to include updating schedules and coordinating assigned work and reporting the status to Management.
Performs Process Safety Management functions as required by OSHA having assigned elements of the PSM standard and the record keeping of applicable documents.
Creates and edits engineering and production of drawings and figures utilizing AutoCAD & SolidWorks.
Acts as Configuration Manager for critical systems.
Prepares Engineering Field Instructions (EFI's) that direct Field Technicians to conduct operations outside normal daily procedures.
Provides technical direction to engineers or technicians in the performance of Operations, EFI's, Repairs, or Troubleshooting as necessary.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required for position.
Knowledge and compliance of the following standards and codes: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS welding standards, CGA compressed gas standards, DOT regulations for portable pressure vessels, Military Standards relating to propellants and propellant systems, and AFSPCMAN 91-710 Range Safety regulations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, and 5-8 years of experience. Advanced degree desirable.
PE License.
Extensive knowledge of a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures in propellants, or related area will be applied. Extensive background in design and testing of aerospace ground support systems and facilities desirable.
Previous engineering assignments, required. Extensive experience with hypergolic propellants, cryogenics, life support equipment, and high pressure gases desirable. Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) also desirable.
Advanced experience in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), and AutoCAD.
Excellent verbal, technical writing, and communication skills.
