JOB SUMMARY:

Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua? We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team in Bryn Mawr, PA. The Project Engineer I prepares reports, conducts and oversees studies, and prepares plans and designs for water and wastewater system capital projects of low to medium complexity. Provides technical support for new customer acquisition. Provides support for regulatory permits and permit compliance. Designs and implements a plan for completing assigned work. Develops schedules, budgets and forecasts for project. Selects materials and staffing for project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Prepares regulatory reports including but not limited to PA DEP Chapter 94 Municipal Wasteload Management Reports, Act 537 Planning Modules and studies, reports required by NPDES and PWS permits, and renewal of permits and Dockets for the Delaware Basin River Commission and Susquehanna River Basin Commission.

  • Responsible for new customer acquisition process by analyzing and finding solutions to new service connection requirements as directed.

  • Supports the monitoring and reporting of A PUC progress reports on Distribution and Collection System Improvement Charges and Long Term Infrastructure Improvement Planning

  • Support the transition of new acquisitions into the Aqua Capital Plan.

  • Manages the implementation of various water and wastewater related capital as directed. Includes preparation of project scopes, design phase (either in-house or by management consultants); bidding the project, and construction management.

  • Conducts site field visits independenty, as directed, to gather information for project execution and/or consultant direction.

  • Prepares planning studies and reports to guide management in future system needs and improvements.

  • Performs calculations to support equipment selection. e.g., wastewater pumps, chemical metering pumps, pipeline sizing, wastewater treatment unit process sizing, aeration blower sizing and air diffuser selection, tank sizing, etc. Performs basic hydraulic analysis (hydrant residuals, etc.).

  • Coordinates project and design work with design-drafters, personnel of other departments, and/or contract resources, as required.

  • Prepares contract documents and specifications for capital projects.

  • Articulates technical problems, design issues and potential solutions well, both in written and verbal form to members of the Aqua business, engineering and operating team and external organizations.

  • Assists in the preparation of cost estimates for Capital Budget planning.

  • Performs contract and construction administration on selected projects.

  • Supervises and/or prepares permit applications for selected projects.

  • Utilizes Company's Financial Information System and Capital Budget System for project authorization and project tracking.

  • Participates in professional organizations, attends seminars/training to maintain technical competency.

  • Assists in safety and security inspections, evaluations, and studies of company water and wastewater treatment plants.

  • Performs other assignments as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required

  • Must have or obtain an Engineer in Training Certificate within two years of employment.

  • Three or more years of experience in water and wastewater is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Examples below)

  • Familiarity with PA Department of Environmental Protection regulations and permitting process preferred

  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills are required. The ability to effectively coordinate and keep track of multiple projects simultaneously is also required

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.; SAP experience a plus.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

  • Operate standard office equipment.

  • Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents

  • Travel Requirements up to 20 %

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

Essential Utilities and its subsidiaries, including Aqua, Delta, and Peoples Natural Gas, requires new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, where allowable under the law. To satisfy this requirement, new hires who received the one shot regimen of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine must receive the one dose shot prior to their first day of employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided on your first day of employment. For the two shot regimen of either Pfizer or Moderna, a new hire must have received at least one dose of the vaccine before their first day of employment. Proof of the second dose date must be received within the recommended timeline based on the manufacturer's vaccine received. For example, for Moderna as soon as the 28 day period has elapsed and for Pfizer as soon as the 21 day period has elapsed. Failure to provide proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will result in the termination of your employment with Essential Utilities including its subsidiaries Aqua, Delta and Peoples Natural Gas.

If you are unable to be fully vaccinated due to a medical or religious exemption, you will be required to apply for an exemption on your first day of employment with Essential Utilities. As part of the process, you will be required to provide information and/or documentation to Human Resources about the reason(s) you cannot be vaccinated. If your request for an exemption is not approved, then your employment may be terminated.
