Position Overview

Collins Supplier Designed Equipment Department is part of Power & Controls Engineering and focuses on taking our customers' requirements, combining them with our best practices, and managing our suppliers to meet our customers' expectations from inception, project execution through validation as well as supporting the life cycle of our components and systems. PurePower Electrical Buy group is part of Supplier Designed Equipment Department and is a project engineering group that works closely with and manages suppliers of electrical systems and engine sensors.

We are seeking a Project Engineer who will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the scope, cost, schedule, and risk of assigned project. This individual will work with a multi-disciplined, technical design and project management team to execute the engineering design process, in a fast-paced environment, for development and integration of electrical systems and engine sensors for P&W PurePower programs.

Major job responsibilities include coordination of all necessary internal, supplier, and customer activities:

  • Provide design oversight, including generation of drawings, specifications and summary reports

  • Perform system and component requirements review and compliance assessments

  • Create risk and mitigation plan

  • Create detail presentations for design reviews and other executive / customer reviews

  • Hold regular meetings with the cross functional IPD team, take action items, and publish meeting minutes

  • Support product / process verification & certification and production incorporation

  • Conduct investigations using Relentless Root Cause & Corrective Action (RRCA)

  • Coordinate all Engineering Changes (Collins & supplier)

  • Create hardware matrix to support procurement with development and production hardware deliveries

  • Present budgetary changes at program Commercial Review Board

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and less than 2 years prior relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Person

The successful candidates will need to combine project management skills with detailed technical intellect to lead Integrated Product Development Team projects that maintain and equip space suits for service on the International Space Station (ISS), and support ground training of astronauts for Extra-Vehicular Activities (EVAs) commonly known as spacewalks. This is an opportunity to work with a team of brilliant engineers who work passionately to develop and maintain the world's most advanced operational life support systems. As an Space Suit Project Engineer, you will help make it possible for crewmembers to go into space vacuum to maintain and upgrade the International Space Station. You will plan and manage projects to design, purchase, fabricate, refurbish, assemble and test components of the EMU life support system. Primary Responsibilities: * Planning, proposing and executing space flight hardware projects * Managing/Coordinating Certification Activities for hardware upgrades * Controlling team activity, scope and schedule * Managing and controlling cost accounts * Conducting project kickoff, design and status reviews * Resolving design, procurement, assembly, test and delivery challenges * Coordinating and leading multi-function teams, leading team meetings and driving action items to closure * Initiating and coordinating engineering changes * Conducting root cause investigations . Basic Qualifications: * Must be a US Citizen * Bachelor's degree and 2 years of prior relevant experience OR • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. * Project management skills * Prior experience in related Engineering disciplines * Willingness to learn and develop a detailed understanding of the life support components and processes that enable human survival and performance in space * Relevant component hardware experience, which may include heat exchangers, pumps, fans, separators, motors, motor controllers, sensors, valves, pressure regulators, electronics, and environmental control hardware (e.g. thermal and humidity control, air revitalization, water reclamation etc.) * An analytical mind to conduct failure evaluations, assess operational risks and provide rationale for corrective actions and continued mission operations * Ability to conduct trade-studies, develop product requirements, cost estimates and proposals * Strong computer skills, MS Office/Project, SAP, Windchill * Experience supporting operational space flight hardware is highly desirable Preferred Qualifications: * Experience supporting operational space flight hardware is highly desirable * MA/MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or MBA degree w/ is preferred Collins Aerospace, a Raytheon Technologies company, is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry.
