Applies comprehensive engineering science and industry experience in the design, fabrication, and implementation of new equipment, tooling, processes to tasks delegated in terms of objectives rather than specific instruction and priorities. Able to make use of mechanics, physics, thermodynamics, mathematics, graphics, hydraulics, and the related engineering subjects in the completion of complex assignments, often crossing fields. Reviews progress, evaluates results, has appreciable latitude for unreviewed action. Works with minimum supervision. Recommends and implements procedure changes, develops process improvements through capital investments, has extensive experience in design, troubleshooting, and manufacturing. Provides guidance, mentoring, and assistance to lower level or fellow employees.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with Engineering and Design in the design of tooling for new products.

  • Assists Program Management and R&D with mechanical expertise required for special tooling, test tools and methods, and new process study and research.

  • Prepares cost estimates for tooling and equipment.

  • Conducts scheduling and coordination between different groups for special projects, bids and proposals, and internal funded studies and projects.

  • Responsible for equipment improvement and redesign for increasing the general efficiency of production programs.

  • Supervises the installation of equipment and tooling.

  • Cooperates with Program Managers, R&D, Engineering and Management in the detail work in infrastructure improvement, capital expenditure requests, financial and economic justification, and return of investment.

  • Supports Maintenance, Production, and Quality. Stays informed concerning new technologies, materials and equipment, and investigates potential applications.

  • Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above

  • Understand and live by Armtec's ethics and business conduct policies


  • Knowledge of mechanical principles, material strength, material science and metallurgy, hydraulics, and thermodynamics.

  • Good math skills, computer skills, and knowledge of measuring instruments and methods.

  • Solid knowledge of modern fabrication methods, machine shop practices and techniques.

  • Good troubleshooting skills.

  • Capable of integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve problems in a timely manner.

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering science with eight plus years of engineering experience required.

  • Drafting skills required along with knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance.

  • Knowledge of CAD systems preferred.

  • Project Management skills and ability to create detailed program and project detailed schedule.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills required.

  • Must be dependable, responsible, and accurate and have the ability to deal with people effectively.

VIEW JOBS 9/28/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-12-27T00:00 <p>Manufacturing Engineers at Armtec Defense Technologies are responsible for directly supporting our production operations by continually improving our production processes, tools, and equipment to help ensure they are always able to safely deliver on our customer and business commitments.</p><p>Our manufacturing engineers do this by: providing engineering focused observation and analysis on their assigned production systems to identify problems and risks early; troubleshooting issues with product quality and equipment downtime when our operations and maintenance teams encounter recurring or particularly difficult problems; and by identifying, implementing, and evaluating potential process and equipment changes to systematically reduce our risk of future process and equipment problems.</p><p>Our engineers are further called upon to improve the documentation and specifications for their production processes, including our operator work loops, equipment troubleshooting and maintenance procedures, and takt-driven process configurations in order to optimize process performance and institutionalize our learning on our production systems.</p><p>Our products are components in large and medium caliber ammunition products, and contain various levels of energetic materials, so safety is of paramount importance. We further strive to operate a pull-based lean production system, with clear operator signals and processes. This not only helps production efficiency and simplifies our engineering problem solving efforts, but it also helps us improve safety by minimizing energetic material in process.
