Occupational Summary:

Under moderate supervision, responsible to achieve the cost budget, schedule, scope of work, product definition, and weight target related to engineering for moderate to complex projects they oversee. The Project Engineer will work closely with their Design team, Certification, Program Management, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to lead and coordinate projects within the definitions of the airframe manufacturer and airline specifications, regulatory requirements, ZSUS requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):

  • Create robust Engineering plans for aftermarket projects and in service issues.

  • Create and maintain Robust Requirements Plan Capture; Validate and Verify

  • Manage Engineering changes through the engineering functions to support project delivery.

  • Assess and manage technical risks to avoid adverse project impacts.

  • Support problem solving initiatives throughout the project.

  • Ensure the engineering budget is maintained.

  • Engages with internal resources to ensure fulfillment of the project. This will include acquiring commitments from functional leaders for the needed resource allocations.

  • Collaborate with other project engineers.

  • Monitor project performance while documenting and working with the team to solve any problems that arise, ensuring that the project remains on schedule and delivers high-quality product to the customer on-time and within budget.

  • Monitor and tracks project changes to ensure the non-recurring budgets are revised appropriately.

  • Coordinate project completion with the affected groups.

  • Provide mentorship of design engineers.

  • Performs the following supervisory functions:

  • Performance Reviews

  • Disciplinary Action up to and including Terminations

  • Vacation approval

  • Time Approval

  • Employee Development

  • Assurance of feasible work levels for employees

  • Employee Communication

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have excellent drafting skills in CATIA V5 (or higher) and/or Pro/Engineer

  • Requires advanced knowledge of aircraft seat products.

  • Must be able to function as part of a design team.

  • Must be able to interact successfully with Engineering, tooling, and manufacturing.

  • Must have proven problem solving skills

  • Preferred knowledge in budget management

  • Preferred knowledge in Risk Management

  • Have understanding of Scope Management

  • Proficient with MS Office

  • Able to multi-task and manage numerous projects

  • Must possess good planning and prioritizing skills.

  • Preferred knowledge in earned Value Management

  • Preferred knowledge in Lean Principles

  • Cognizant of the current standards of the aircraft industry and warrant specifications including FAA and CAA/JAA rules applicable to the product.

  • Proven expertise in leading multiple projects.

  • Experience developing and maintaining project plans, resource models, risk logs, issue logs, status reports, and other project-related assets.

  • Strong leadership and relationship management skills including negotiation, conflict management, and managing multiple objectives.

  • Strong sense of accountability and ownership; understanding the project engineer role as it pertains to the project team and working with moderate supervision.

  • Effective team player.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Material Science, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, or Systems Engineering or 12 years equivalent related experience in lieu of degree.

  • Plus requires minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering related field, at least 2 of those years must be experience managing projects.

  • Experience leading a team is preferred.

Must have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment. Ability to read and review written communication. Speech and hearing abilities that allow individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English.

Physical Demands:

This position requires extended periods of sitting while working with computers and viewing computer monitors and other office equipment. Finger dexterity needed in using misc. office equipment such as telephone, computer and copy machine, etc. Bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to approximately twenty pounds are required during tasks related to the job.

Travel:

  • More than one month of total traveling per year; international and domestic
