Position Summary

Title: Project Engineer Concord, Alabama Reports to: Chief Engineer

Provide Engineering support for underground mines, which include defining project specifications, bid documents and overall project management primarily associated with surface facilities such as air shafts, fans, and boreholes. Develop and prepare information necessary for environmental and safety permit preparation.

Target Responsibilities

Coordinate the designing and installation of facilities and equipment such as shaft sites, mine fans, water treatment facilities, dewater boreholes, water lines, methane degas boreholes, power boreholes and access roads. Work with draftsman to develop construction plans. Coordinate execution of construction plans with frontline supervisors and construction crews. Prepare budgets and track costs, requisitions, and purchase order status. Interact with contractors from the bidding process through to project completion, including monitoring of contractor performance and safety compliance. Provide plans for preparation and certification of environmental permits for all projects. Work with mine management and operations in planning and defining new capital projects, developing cost estimates, purchasing engineering and construction services, and managing construction contracts to execute the work.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mining Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer registration or FE is preferred. Requires a strong understanding of mine operations including u/g mine ventilation, analytic skills and knowledge of environmental and safety regulations. Requires 5 to 7 years of related experience in mine operations. Requires good communication, supervisory and project management skills. Requires travel into u/g mine, surface construction sites, and preparation plants. Computer skills need to include Word, Excel and AutoCAD.

Job Summary/Purpose Manages the development and delivery of a capital project or program to which he or she is assigned and focuses on the achievement of project cost and schedule objectives while achieving excellence in the areas of project safety and quality.
