Position Summary

Title: Project Engineer Concord, Alabama Reports to: Chief Engineer

Provide Engineering support for underground mines, which include defining project specifications, bid documents and overall project management primarily associated with surface facilities such as air shafts, fans, and boreholes. Develop and prepare information necessary for environmental and safety permit preparation.

Target Responsibilities

Coordinate the designing and installation of facilities and equipment such as shaft sites, mine fans, water treatment facilities, dewater boreholes, water lines, methane degas boreholes, power boreholes and access roads. Work with draftsman to develop construction plans. Coordinate execution of construction plans with frontline supervisors and construction crews. Prepare budgets and track costs, requisitions, and purchase order status. Interact with contractors from the bidding process through to project completion, including monitoring of contractor performance and safety compliance. Provide plans for preparation and certification of environmental permits for all projects. Work with mine management and operations in planning and defining new capital projects, developing cost estimates, purchasing engineering and construction services, and managing construction contracts to execute the work.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mining Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer registration or FE is preferred. Requires a strong understanding of mine operations including u/g mine ventilation, analytic skills and knowledge of environmental and safety regulations. Requires 5 to 7 years of related experience in mine operations. Requires good communication, supervisory and project management skills. Requires travel into u/g mine, surface construction sites, and preparation plants. Computer skills need to include Word, Excel and AutoCAD.

Provide engineering guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports, cost estimates, and presentations; Assess feasibility of Commercial and Industrial scale Solar PV + Energy Storage projects. Tasks include conceptual design, vendor selection, energy modeling, demand/energy savings, project scoping, project pricing, and performance risk management; Coordinate and deploy Pre-Construction (PC) individuals to administer site walks, field data collection, contractor bids, and pre-development support associated with designated led projects; Provide RFI support through construction, ensuring projects are built in compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes; Develop and coordinate all equipment procurement associated with designated led projects (pricing, terms & conditions, delivery & storage, purchase orders) with Construction Project Management associated with designated led projects; Interface with other departments, management, and non-technical staff to collaborate technical diligence with a business solution in mind; Ensure successful project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver customer energy cost savings; Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships; and Perform other duties as required.
