Job Summary:

To provide and perform project leadership services for the capital improvement and maintenance of the generation assets at our client. To successfully manage projects in a safe, timely and cost effective manner in coordination with our client's requirements. Report to our client's location daily, located in Maysville, KY.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing multiple power plant capital projects from conception to completion (scope of work, schedules, budgets, reporting, bidding, contractors selection, construction management, start-up and commissioning, project closeout, etc.) in accordance with facility owner needs.

  • Responsible for developing specifications for power plant equipment and subsequent installation.

  • Responsible for managing applicable service providers, vendors, and contractors.

  • Responsible for evaluating multiple design and construction options to develop the most economical course of action.

  • Responsible for driving projects in collaboration with owner departments (operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, supply chain, etc.)

  • Maintains awareness of all discipline relevant procedures, specifications and standards.

  • Maintains technical expertise and awareness of field by staying abreast of the industry.

  • Initiates status report for all assigned projects and keeps Management informed on progress.

  • Assists in preparing monthly and weekly status reports for the section.

  • Collaborates on the preparation of work plans and monitors actual progress of applicable portions, taking any corrective action required.

  • Requires mature engineering knowledge and judgment of sound engineering practices and standards.

  • Maintains drawings and files concerning department projects.

  • Analyzes test data, operating data, and practices; recommends plant/facility improvements based on these analyses. Designs plant/facility improvements in accordance with prudent engineering practices and owner objectives.

  • Directs and coordinates contractor or staff on project-related work; certifies completed work; recommends final acceptance of the project.

  • Monitors the project during start-up and recommends modifications necessary to support project success.

  • Familiarity with the following power production plant equipment and applications; coal handling, conveyors, fuel systems, concrete, steel and geotechnical.

  • General Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 Scheduling Software.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Collaborative work style with the ability to gather input from all stakeholders and lead the team to a consensus decision.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Required Qualifications/

  • Civil Engineer from ABET accredited college

  • Profession Engineering License preferred

  • PMP / PMI-SP Certification preferred

  • 5+ year of progressive experience with Electrical Power Production facilities

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

  • Technical knowledge of power plant operation and maintenance procedures

  • Knowledge of and experience with contract procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to make responsible decisions in the execution of contract requirements

  • Must be able to read, interpret, and prepare system and equipment manuals, schematic diagrams, and engineering drawings.

  • Must have the ability to work with other departmental staff and supervisors in carrying out plans, construction contracts, etc.

  • Must have the ability to think logically and creatively and to understand instructions on specific objectives, complex features, and possible solutions, and formulate good engineering plans/solutions.

  • Must be able to plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of engineering.

  • Demonstrated project management skills and effective communication skills.

  • Unquestioned business and personal integrity

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, an operating facility, and construction sites; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Work will include exposure to extreme temperatures, confined spaces and heights, noise, and working around heavy machinery and energized equipment.

We are seeking a Project Manager I - Facilities Engineering for our Big Sandy Plant in Kentucky. This individual represents the headquarters Facilities Engineering Department while resident at our largest manufacturing plant. He/she does so by supporting all capital projects at the facility to assure compliance with corporate reporting requirements, adherence to policies, and delivery of successful outcomes. This individual may also lead one or more capital projects at the carbon plant personally beginning with scope definition and justification, and extending through design, construction, and start-up. This individual may also work as part of a team for large projects elsewhere in the company under the direction of a Senior Project Manager. Key Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to) * Communicate effectively with Manufacturing, Leadership, and Procurement teams to meet project goals * Comply with all company policies and procedures * Work safely, fully participate in and support all corporate programs related to safety * Ensure a fair procurement process * Generate project scope and justification * Create or support the preparation of bid documents for subcontracted activities * Monitor and control suppliers' adherence to specifications, schedule, and scope * Generate purchase requisitions and approve payments * Track all project costs utilizing SAP Project Systems * Provide periodic status reports, cost reports and financial projections * Identify and value asset base at completion of project * Develop execution plan drawing on a mix of internal and external resources. * Lead team to develop technical specifications, equipment specifications and drawings for a proper design * Develop, maintain, and control project schedule * Develop, maintain and control budget * Coordinate internal stakeholders to design for best practice * Oversee construction activities, including management and direction of subcontractors * Establish and maintain project files * Complete the Project close-out process * Work with internal and external resources to ensure work is completed to applicable environmental and government requirements Qualifications * A Bachelor's of Science degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline from a four-year college or university is required * 2-3 years in a heavy industry manufacturing environment preferred * 2-3 years as a Project Manager preferred * Experience with supervising engineering and construction contractors preferred * Experience with SAP preferred but comfort and skill learning and becoming a super-user of complex computer applications is required Hours of work: Mondays - Fridays, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 40 Hrs/Wk (5 days at 8 hrs, flexed between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00pm) 20% Overnight Travel Benefits: Medical, dental, prescription, vision and retirement savings (401k) Calgon Carbon is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
