Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate implementation of Native Connections grant between all hired grant staff and grant evaluator

  • Responsible for day to day management and oversight of the grant

  • Develop grant project policy and procedure

  • Oversee and supervise staff related to Native Connections grant

  • Maintain integrity and appropriate use of grant funds and resources

  • Attend required trainings and grantee meetings

  • Organize information and work closely with project evaluator

  • Report to Director of Health

  • Accountable to the community and Business Committee, Advisory Board and Principle Investigator for appropriate conduct of grant

  • Conduct a Community System Analysis, Community Needs Assessment, and Community

Readiness Assessment

  • Create Community Resource/Asset Map that addresses suicide prevention, substance use prevention, and mental health disorders

  • Data entry for grant requirements in specific grant database

  • Coordinate project with other behavioral health programs as needed

  • Act as a resource and provide leadership in community groups and with co-workers

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings with behavioral health staff members

  • Provide monthly reports to Health Director

  • Be knowledgeable and aware of goals, objectives and requirements of the grant

  • Develop policies and procedures to promote coordination among youth-serving agencies

  • Standards of care for youth at risk for suicide

  • Procedures to address the transition of youth from one agency to another

  • The role of evidence-based clinical health practices in supporting suicide prevention, substance use and misuse prevention interventions, and mental health promotion and wellness strategies among youth and their families

  • Role of local traditional healing/helping practices in combination with evidence-based suicide and substance use prevention among youth.

  • Develop and/or revise protocols to ensure that youth at risk for suicide, including those who attempt suicide and use prevention among youth

  • Develop and/or revise "postvention" protocols for responding to suicides, suicide attempts, and suicide clusters to promote community healing and reduce the possibility of contagion. Protocols will reflect the traditions and culture of the tribe or tribal organizations that are incorporated into urban Indian programs

  • Develop and implement an Action Plan that addresses one, two, or three tiers of prevention and intervention strategies

  • Universal prevention strategies-focus on reducing risk and increasing resilience for youth through the age of 24 regardless of risk for suicide or substance abuse

  • Selective prevention and intervention strategies- focus on developing selective prevention and intervention services to youth through the age of 24 who may have greater needs than the general population

  • Indicated prevention and intervention strategies- focus on implementing interventions to youth through the age of 24 whose needs have not been adequately addressed by the previous two tiers of service delivery

  • Ensure that community members are involved in guiding all grant activities, including planning, implementation, and evaluation

  • Solicit the input on existing (or create a) youth advisory council for guidance, feedback and review of program efforts

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Behavioral Health

  • Licensed with respective licensing board (LPC, LMFT, MSW, LADC-MH)

  • 2 years working in behavioral health field with individuals, families, and groups ages 10-25 years old.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of American Indian culture

  • Knowledge and understanding of Principles, procedures, methods, and techniques of behavioral health practices

  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in regard to confidentiality and the release of behavioral health information

  • Ability to complete appropriate screening tools and evaluations for best care

  • Ability to work with others and utilize excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to educate clients, community members, and school administration on behavioral health related issues

  • Ability to document behavioral health interactions in electronic medical records

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and internet resources

  • Experience counseling individuals with substance abuse and mental health disorders

  • Ability to educate community on mental health disorders and prevention services
